Abstract

A system may provide a visualization function during computational functions performed by a host system. Access to a library of functions including a visualization function is provided. Then, a computing application is executed. The execution of the computing application includes generating multi-dimensional data, invoking the visualization function from the library, and providing a visual representation of at least a portion of the multi-dimensional data for display within the computing application using the visualization function.

Claims (44)

1. A method for generating graphical representations, the method comprising:

providing access to a library of functions including a visualization function;

receiving a data set in response to executing one or more computer program instructions of an application program;

generating multi-dimensional data from the data set;

executing a visualization function call during the execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program, wherein the visualization function call requests production of a graphical representation of the data set by a visualization program during the concurrent execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

invoking the visualization function from the library before generating the graphical representation, wherein the graphical representation provided for display includes at least a portion of the multi-dimensional data;

identifying one or more pointers to data associated with the data set, wherein the one or more pointers are parameters associated with the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

identifying an argument that corresponds to a type for the graphical representation; and

generating a graphical representation corresponding to the data set and the identified argument by executing one or more computer program instructions of the visualization program based on the executed visualization function call, wherein the graphical representation is continually updated as the application program continues execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program and is provided for display on a display.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving of the data set includes aggregating data from a plurality of distributed clients.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical representation is provided to the plurality of distributed clients.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving of the data set includes generating the data set from data received from a client.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the visualization function is invoked by a single thread.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the invoking the visualization function includes calling a graphics package for providing the graphical representation.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the invoking of the visualization function is initiated by a client request.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical representation includes one or more of a data structure, an array, a graphics, linear model, a non-linear models, statistical models, and time-series models.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical representation includes linked lists.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical representation includes three dimensional (3D) interactive components.

11. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having embodied thereon a program executable by a processor to execute a method for generating graphical representations, the method comprising:

providing access to a library of functions including a visualization function;

receiving a data set in response to executing one or more computer program instructions of an application program;

generating multi-dimensional data from the data set;

executing a visualization function call during the execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program, wherein the visualization function call requests production of a graphical representation of the data set by a visualization program during the concurrent execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

invoking the visualization function from the library before generating the graphical representation, wherein the graphical representation provided for display includes at least a portion of the multi-dimensional data;

identifying one or more pointers to data associated with the data set, wherein the one or more pointers are parameters associated with the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

identifying an argument that corresponds to a type for the graphical representation; and

generating a graphical representation corresponding to the data set and the identified argument by executing one or more computer program instructions of the visualization program based on the executed visualization function call, wherein the graphical representation is continually updated as the application program continues execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program and is provided for display on a display.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the receiving of the data set includes aggregating data from a plurality of distributed clients.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the graphical representation is provided to the plurality of distributed clients.

14. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the receiving of the first data set includes generating the data set from data received from a client.

15. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the visualization function is invoked by a single thread.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the invoking the visualization function includes calling a graphics package for providing the graphical representation.

17. An apparatus generating graphical representations, the apparatus comprising:

a memory; and

one or more processors, wherein the one or more processors executing instructions out of the memory:

provide access to a library of functions including a visualization function;

receive a data set in response to executing one or more computer program instructions of an application program;

generate multi-dimensional data from the data set;

execute a visualization function call during the execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program, wherein the visualization function call requests production of a graphical representation of the data set by a visualization program during the concurrent execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

invoke the visualization function from the library before generating the graphical representation, wherein the graphical representation provided for display includes at least a portion of the multi-dimensional data;

identify one or more pointers to data associated with the data set, wherein the one or more pointers are parameters associated with the one or more computer program instructions of the application program;

identify an argument that corresponds to a type of for the graphical representation; and

generate a graphical representation corresponding to the data set and the identified argument by executing one or more computer program instructions of the visualization program based on the executed visualization function, wherein the graphical representation is continually updated as the application program continues execution of the one or more computer program instructions of the application program and is provided for display on a display.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the receiving of the data set includes aggregating data from a plurality of distributed clients, and the graphical representation is provided to the plurality of distributed clients.
