Abstract

Devices and methods provide for measuring applied pressure on an article, such as a patella construct during a surgical procedure. Embodiments include a clamp having an upper frame arm, a lower frame arm and a clamp assembly, and further include a clamp with a knob assembly and a pressure monitor assembly. Differently sized bushing adapters can be interchangeably employed with a clamp stem to adapt to the relative sizes of objects being clamped.

Claims (23)

1. A patella clamp, comprising:

an upper frame arm;

a lower frame arm having a rear portion and a front portion, wherein the rear portion is movably connected to the upper frame arm; and

a patella clamp pressure measurement arrangement secured to at least one of the upper frame arm or the lower frame arm, wherein the clamp pressure measurement arrangement measures the pressure applied between the upper and lower frame arms to a patella construct, wherein the clamp pressure measurement arrangement comprises a turnable knob secured to the upper frame arm and a pivot nut threadedly engaged with the turnable knob.

2. The patella clamp of claim 1 , wherein the rear portion of the lower frame arm is hingedly connected to the upper frame arm.

3. The patella clamp of claim 1 , wherein the front portion of the lower frame arm comprises a top surface, and wherein one or more spike elements extend from the lower frame arm top surface.

4. The patella clamp of claim 1 , wherein the lower frame arm comprises a bottom surface formed with indentations for gripping.

5. The patella clamp of claim 1 , wherein the upper frame arm comprises a bottom surface, and further comprising at least one resilient bushing insert removably secured to the bottom surface of the upper frame arm.

6. The patella clamp of claim 5 , wherein the front portion of the lower frame arm comprises a top surface, and wherein one or more spike elements extend from the lower frame arm top surface.

The patella clamp of claim 5 , wherein the bushing comprises a body portion, a neck portion and a head portion, wherein the body portion, neck portion and head portion each have an interior surface forming an opening extending along an internal axis of the bushing, and wherein the body portion has an axially outer surface and a radially outer surface, the neck portion has a radially outer surface, and the head portion has an axially outer surface and a radially outer surface.

The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the radially outer surface of the head portion has a radial distance from the internal axis, the radially outer surface of the neck portion has a radial distance from the internal axis, and the radially outer surface of the body portion has a radial distance from the internal axis, and further wherein the radial distance of the body portion radially outer surface is greater than the radial distance of the head portion radially outer surface.

9. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the radial distance of the head portion radially outer surface is greater than the radial distance of the neck portion radially outer surface.

The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the head portion radially outer surface has an axially outer end, an axially inner end and an axial midsection, and wherein the radial distance of the head portion radially outer surface is greater at the axial midsection than at the axially outer and inner ends.

11. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the radial distance of the neck portion radially outer surface is substantially constant and the radial distance of the body portion radially outer surface is substantially constant.

12. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the head portion radially outer surface is substantially semi-circular in cross-section.

13. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the axially outer surface of the body portion has an axially inner edge and an axially outer edge, and wherein the axially outer surface extends axially outwardly from the axially inner edge to the axially outer edge.

14. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the axially outer surface further extends radially outwardly from the axially inner edge to the axially outer edge.

15. The patella clamp of claim 7 , wherein the body portion interior surface extends from the neck portion interior surface to the axially inner edge of the axially outer surface of the body portion.

16. A patella clamp, comprising:

an upper frame arm comprising a bottom surface;

a lower frame arm having a rear portion and a front portion, wherein the rear portion is movably connected to the upper frame arm;

a patella clamp pressure measurement arrangement secured to at least one of the upper frame arm or the lower frame arm, wherein the clamp pressure measurement arrangement measures the pressure applied between the upper and lower frame arms to a patella construct; and

at least one resilient bushing insert removably secured to the bottom surface of the upper frame arm wherein the bushing comprises a body portion, a neck portion and a head portion, wherein the body portion, neck portion and head portion each have an interior surface forming an opening extending along an internal axis of the bushing, and wherein the body portion has an axially outer surface and a radially outer surface, the neck portion has a radially outer surface, and the head portion has an axially outer surface and a radially outer surface, wherein the head portion radially outer surface has an axially outer end, an axially inner end and an axial midsection, and wherein the radial distance of the head portion radially outer surface is greater at the axial midsection than at the axially outer and inner ends.
