Abstract

An interactive flyer system is disclosed. The system includes a flyer image tiler for creating a flyer image tile set, the set including multiple copies of a flyer image segmented into a plurality of flyer image tiles with each copy representing the flyer image at one of a plurality of zoom levels, wherein a copy of the multiple copies is configured to fit within a viewport having a resolution, and a flyer image tile store for storing the flyer image tile set. There is also disclosed a method for displaying the interactive digital flyer.

Claims (62)

1. A method for use in displaying a digital flyer on a computing device, the method comprising:

receiving at a computing device an indication of a flyer stack comprising plurality of digital flyers selected for the viewer from a collection of a plurality of individual digital flyers, each of the plurality of individual digital flyers comprising a source flyer image providing information on one or more products or services available at one or more retailers and polygon mapping information comprising a plurality of polygons each for defining a respective polygonal area on the source flyer image, the polygonal area associated with contextual information for use in generating navigational content for the digital flyer and generating a feedback report, the indication of the plurality of digital flyers including a display order for the plurality of digital flyers based on a determined relevancy of the respective digital flyer to the viewer;

displaying in a viewport on the computing device at least a first portion of a digital flyer of the plurality of selected digital flyers according to the display order, the viewport arranged relative to the digital flyer at a first set of viewport coordinates of the digital flyer to display the first portion of the digital flyer;

displaying the generated navigational content;

receiving an indication of a viewer's desire to navigate within the displayed digital flyer;

displaying in the viewport on the computing device at least a second portion of the digital flyer, the viewport arranged relative to the digital flyer at a second set of viewport coordinates of the digital flyer to display the second portion of the digital flyer;

tracking viewport coordinates of the displayed digital flyers; and

transmitting from the computing device to a server, viewer feedback data comprising the first and second viewport for use in determining a portion of the viewport occupied by one or more of the polygons of the polygon mapping information when generating a feedback report.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying at least the portion of the first one of the one or more digital flyers comprises:

providing an inter-flyer navigational interface for navigating between the plurality of digital flyers of the flyer stack; and

providing an intra-flyer navigational interface for navigating within a displayed digital flyer.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the received indication of the plurality of digital flyers further comprises an indication of one or more groupings of the plurality of digital flyers.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the one or more groupings of the plurality of digital flyers is based on contextual content of respective ones of the plurality of digital flyers.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication of a plurality of digital flyers is received in response to a transmitted request for a digital flyer.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the request comprises a user or device identifier.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising tracking one or more of:

a time the digital flyer is displayed;

a geographic location of the viewer; and

locations of the digital flyer the viewer has interacted with.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of digital flyers are selected based on a geographic region of the viewer.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of digital flyers selected for transmission to the viewer are selected based on one or more of:

a physical distance between stores associated with the flyers and a viewer's location;

brand awareness of the related flyers;

previous viewing preferences of the viewer;

behaviour history of the viewer;

behaviour history of other viewers;

relationships between a publisher of the flyer and a vendor;

contextual similarities between related flyers; and

relationships between retailers of the flyers.

10. A computing device comprising:

a display;

a processor for executing instructions; and

a memory for storing instructions, which when executed by the processor configure the computing device to:

receive at the computing device an indication of a plurality of digital flyers selected for the viewer from a collection of a plurality of individual digital flyers, each of the plurality of individual digital flyers comprising a source flyer image providing information on one or more products or services available at one or more retailers and polygon mapping information comprising a plurality of polygons each for defining a respective polygonal area on the source flyer image, the polygonal area associated with contextual information for use in generating navigational content for the digital flyer and generating a feedback report, the indication of the plurality of digital flyers including a display order for the plurality of digital flyers based on a determined relevancy of the respective digital flyer to the viewer;

display in a viewport on the display of the computing device at least a first portion of digital flyer of the plurality of selected digital flyers according to the display order;

display the generated navigational content;

receive an indication of a viewer's desire to navigate within the displayed digital flyer;

display in the viewport on the computing device at least a second portion of the digital flyer, the viewport arranged relative to the digital flyer at a second set of viewport coordinates of the digital flyer to display the second portion of the digital flyer;

track viewport coordinates of the displayed digital; and

transmit from the computing device to a server, viewer feedback data comprising the first and second viewport coordinates for use in determining a portion of the viewport occupied by one or more of the polygon of the polygon mapping information when generating a feedback report.

11. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein displaying at least the portion of the first one of the one or more digital flyers comprises:

providing an inter-flyer navigational interface for navigating between the plurality of digital flyers of the flyer stack; and

providing an intra-flyer navigational interface for navigating within a displayed digital flyer.

12. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the received indication of the plurality of digital flyers further comprises an indication of one or more groupings of the plurality of digital flyers.

13. The computing device of claim 12 , wherein the one or more groupings of the plurality of digital flyers is based on contextual content of respective ones of the plurality of digital flyers.

14. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the indication of a plurality of digital flyers is received in response to a transmitted request for a digital flyer.

15. The computing device of claim 14 , wherein the request comprises a user or device identifier.

16. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions when executed by the processor further configure the computing device to one or more of:

track a displayed region of the digital flyer;

track a time the digital flyer is displayed;

track a geographic location of the viewer; and

track locations of the digital flyer the viewer has interacted with.

17. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of digital flyers are selected based on a geographic region of the viewer.

18. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of digital flyers selected for transmission to the viewer are selected based on one or more of:

a physical distance between stores associated with the flyers and a viewer's location;

brand awareness of the related flyers;

previous viewing preferences of the viewer;

behaviour history of the viewer;

behaviour history of other viewers;

relationships between a publisher of the flyer and a vendor;

contextual similarities between related flyers; and

relationships between retailers of the flyers.
