Abstract

An infusion apparatus for delivering medication includes a housing, a drive mechanism, a force sensor, and a transfer element. The drive mechanism comprises first and second conveying elements, the second conveying element for advancing a plug in a reservoir in the distal direction, the first conveying element with limited axial movement relative to the housing but rotatable to cause an ejecting or resetting movement of the second conveying element. The force sensor is arranged along a central axis between the housing and the proximal end of the drive mechanism. The transfer element is axially arranged between the force sensor and the first conveying element and the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the ejection movement. The second conveying element moves the transfer element away from the first conveying element against the bias of a restoring force such that the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the resetting movement.

Claims (38)

1. An infusion apparatus for the administration of a medication from a reservoir with a plug moveable along a central axis in a distal direction for ejection, the apparatus comprising:

a housing;

a drive device comprising an advancing sleeve and a piston rod, the piston rod configured for advancing the plug in the reservoir in the distal direction, the advancing sleeve configured for limited axial movement relative to the housing and being rotatable, wherein rotation of the advancing sleeve causes an ejection movement or a resetting movement of the piston rod;

a force sensor arranged along the central axis between the housing and a proximal end of the drive device; and

a closure cap axially arranged between the force sensor and the advancing sleeve such that the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the ejection movement,

wherein the piston rod moves the closure cap away from the advancing sleeve against the bias of a restoring force such that the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the resetting movement.

2. The infusion apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a seal exerts the restoring force on the closure cap.

3. The infusion apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the seal is one or more of an elastomeric part or a spring.

4. The infusion apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the seal operatively couples the closure cap and the advancing sleeve.

5. The infusion apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the seal comprises an O-ring arranged in a groove formed on one or more of the closure cap or the advancing sleeve.

6. The infusion apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the seal is one or more of a magnetic or an electromagnetic arrangement.

7. The infusion apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the closure cap comprises a protrusion and a protruding ring,

the force sensor comprises a cantilever beam coupled to a base plate,

the axial forces are measured by deflection of the cantilever beam versus the base plate, and are transmitted from the drive device to the cantilever beam via the protrusion, and

a maximum deflection of the cantilever beam is limited by the protruding ring.

8. The infusion apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the protrusion and the protruding ring protrude from the closure cap.

9. The infusion apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein a ratio of protrusion distances of the protrusion and protruding ring is above unity.

10. The infusion apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the maximum deflection of the cantilever beam is limited by the protruding ring touching the base plate of the force sensor.

11. An infusion apparatus for the administration of a medication from a reservoir with a plug moveable along a central axis in a distal direction for ejection, the apparatus comprising:

a housing;

a drive device comprising a first conveying member and a second conveying member, the second conveying member configured for advancing the plug in the reservoir in the distal direction, the first conveying member configured for limited axial movement relative to the housing and being rotatable, wherein rotation of the first conveying member causes an ejection movement or a resetting movement of the second conveying member;

a force sensor arranged along the central axis between the housing and a proximal end of the drive device; and

a transfer member axially arranged between the force sensor and the first conveying member such that the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the ejection movement,

wherein the second conveying member moves the transfer member away from the first conveying member against the bias of a restoring force such that the force sensor bears axial forces exerted by the resetting movement.

12. The infusion apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein a resilient member exerts the restoring force on the transfer member.

13. The infusion apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the resilient member is one or more of an elastomeric part or a spring.

14. The infusion apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the resilient member operatively couples the transfer member and the first conveying member.

15. The infusion apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein the resilient member comprises an O-ring arranged in a groove formed on one or more of the transfer member or the first conveying member.

16. The infusion apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the resilient member is one or more of a magnetic or an electromagnetic arrangement.

17. The infusion apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein:

the transfer member comprises a force transmitting member and a restricting member,

the force sensor comprises a cantilever beam coupled to a base plate,

the axial forces are measured by deflection of the cantilever beam versus the base plate, and are transmitted from the drive device to the cantilever beam via the force transmitting member, and

a maximum deflection of the cantilever beam is limited by the restricting member.

18. The infusion apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the force transmitting member and the restricting member protrude from the transfer member.

19. The infusion apparatus according to claim 18 , wherein a ratio of protrusion distances of the force transmitting member and restricting member is above unity.

20. The infusion apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the maximum deflection of the cantilever beam is limited by the restricting member touching the base plate of the force sensor.
