Abstract

A number of patient beds are disclosed. Some patient beds have siderails that are movable by a patient so that the patient can egress from the bed without interference from the siderails. Various caregiver control panels and patient control panels for controlling features and functions of a patient bed are also disclosed. For example, a cart with caregiver control inputs, including hand inputs on a graphical user interface (GUI) and foot inputs, is disclosed. Patient positioning and transfer devices are also disclosed. Various types of in-bed physical therapy devices are also disclosed.

Claims (26)

1. A patient bed system comprising

a frame,

a port coupled to a portion of the frame that is accessible to a patient supported by the frame, the port being connectable to a handheld electronic device to recharge the handheld electronic device and to download bed control software to the handheld electronic device so that the portable handheld electronic device is usable to control features of the patient bed, and

a plurality of icons situated at a foot end of the frame, each icon of the plurality of icons being illuminated a first color to indicate a satisfactory status of an associated monitored bed feature, each icon of the plurality of icons being illuminated a second color to indicate an unsatisfactory status of the associated monitored condition, each icon of the plurality of icons being unlit if the associated feature of the bed is not being monitored, wherein lighted images are projected onto areas of a floor adjacent the bed with each lighted image including a shape corresponding to a respective icon of the plurality of icons if the respective icon is illuminated the first color or the second color.

2. The patient bed system of claim 1 , further comprising the handheld device and wherein the handheld electronic device comprises a phone or a tablet computer.

3. The patient bed system of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the frame to which the port is coupled includes a barrier extending upwardly with respect to a patient support surface carried by frame and the port is provided on the barrier.

4. The patient bed system of claim 3 , wherein the barrier comprises a siderail.

5. The patient bed system of claim 4 , further comprising user inputs coupled to the siderail to control one or more features of the patient bed.

6. The patient bed system of claim 4 , wherein the siderail comprises a first siderail and wherein the frame further comprises a shelf and a second siderail spaced from the first siderail, the shelf being attached to the second siderail.

7. The patient bed system of claim 6 , wherein the shelf is pivotable relative to the second siderail to a plurality of positions.

8. The patient bed system of claim 4 , further comprising a control panel housing that is pivotable relative to the siderail between a raised position and a lowered position.

9. The patient bed system of claim 8 , wherein the control panel housing moves upwardly out of a recess in the siderail when moving from the lowered position to the raised position.

10. The patient bed system of claim 8 , wherein the patient support surface comprises a mattress and wherein the control panel housing carries caregiver controls that face away from the mattress when the control panel housing is in the raised position and patient controls are provided on an edge of the control panel housing.

11. The patient bed system of claim 1 , wherein after the electronic handheld device begins to charge, the patient is queried as to whether the bed control software should be downloaded to the electronic handheld device.

12. The patient bed system of claim 11 , wherein the patient is queried on a display screen of the electronic handheld device.

13. The patient bed system of claim 12 , wherein a download field is displayed on the display screen for selection by the patient.

14. The patient bed system of claim 1 , further comprising an inductive charger coupled to the frame and operable to inductively recharge the handheld electronic device.

15. The patient bed system of claim 14 , wherein the frame includes a shelf and the inductive charger is carried by the shelf.

16. The patient bed system of claim 15 , wherein the inductive charger is situated beneath an upper surface of the shelf.

17. The patient bed system of claim 14 , wherein the inductive charger is supported by an upper surface of the shelf.

18. The patient bed system of claim 17 , wherein the upper surface of the shelf includes a recess and the inductive charger is embedded in the recess.

19. The patient bed system of claim 18 , wherein the upper surface of the shelf and an upper surface of the inductive charger are substantially coplanar.

20. A patient bed system comprising

a frame,

a port coupled to a portion of the frame that is accessible to a patient supported by the frame, the port being connectable to a handheld electronic device to recharge the handheld electronic device and to download bed control software to the handheld electronic device so that the portable handheld electronic device is usable to control features of the patient bed, wherein the portion of the frame to which the port is coupled includes a barrier extending upwardly with respect to a patient support surface carried by frame and the port is provided on the barrier, wherein the barrier comprises a siderail, and

user inputs coupled to the siderail to control one or more features of the patient bed, wherein the siderail comprises a first siderail and wherein the frame further comprises a shelf and a second siderail spaced from the first siderail, the shelf being attached to the second siderail, wherein the shelf is pivotable relative to the second siderail to a plurality of positions, wherein the patient support surface comprises a mattress and wherein the shelf is pivotable relative to the second siderail between a first position overlying the mattress and a second position extending in an opposite direction away from the mattress.
