Abstract

A dialysis system includes at least one source of fluid for dialysis, a fluid line in fluid communication with the at least one source of fluid, at least one pump positioned and arranged to pump fluid from the at least one source of fluid through the fluid line, a first patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the fluid line to allow a blood treatment to be performed using the at least one source of fluid, and a second patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the fluid line to allow a peritoneal dialysis treatment to be performed using the at least one source of fluid.

Claims (39)

1. A dialysis system comprising:

an online blood treatment fluid source and a treatment fluid pump provided at a first time, the treatment fluid pump positioned and arranged to deliver blood treatment fluid via the online blood treatment fluid source;

at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid separate from the treatment fluid pump provided at a second time;

a first fluid line;

a second fluid line in fluid communication with the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid;

at least one pump positioned and arranged to pump blood through the first fluid line at the first time;

a first patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the first fluid line to allow a blood treatment to be performed at a first pressure supplied by the at least one pump at the first time; and

a second patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the second fluid line to allow a peritoneal dialysis treatment to be performed at a second pressure applied to peritoneal dialysis fluid delivered from the peritoneal dialysis fluid source to the second fluid line at the second time.

2. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the first patient connector includes hemodialysis needles.

3. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the second patient connector includes a peritoneal dialysis connection set.

4. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one pump is used additionally to pump peritoneal dialysis fluid to perform the peritoneal dialysis treatment.

5. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , which includes a dialyzer at the first time located between the treatment fluid pump and the at least one pump positioned and arranged to pump blood.

6. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid is a premade source of peritoneal dialysis fluid.

7. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the first fluid line is provided at the first time and the second fluid line is provided at the second time.

8. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one pump is a peristaltic pump.

9. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the online blood treatment fluid source includes a water purification machine and at least one source of concentrate.

10. The dialysis fluid system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one source of concentrate includes at least one of: (i) an acid container; or (ii) a bicarbonate cartridge.

11. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , which includes a control unit programmed to pump peritoneal dialysis fluid from the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid through a blood filter to perform the peritoneal dialysis treatment with the second patient connector.

12. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , which includes a control unit programmed to drain a patient using the second connector when a peritoneal dialysis treatment is to be performed.

13. The dialysis fluid system of claim 1 , wherein the online blood treatment fluid source includes a water purification machine and at least one source of concentrate.

14. A dialysis system comprising:

an online blood treatment fluid source and a treatment fluid pump provided at a first time, the treatment fluid pump positioned and arranged to deliver blood treatment fluid via the online blood treatment fluid source;

at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid separate from the treatment fluid pump provided at a second time;

a first fluid line;

a second fluid line in fluid communication with the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid;

at least one pump positioned and arranged to pump blood through the first fluid line at the first time;

a first patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the first fluid line to allow a blood treatment to be performed at a blood treatment pressure between −300 mmHg to 500 mmHg at the first time; and

a second patient connector configured to be removably placed in fluid communication with the second fluid line to allow a peritoneal dialysis treatment to be performed at a peritoneal dialysis pressure between −1.5 psig and 3 psig applied to peritoneal dialysis fluid delivered from the peritoneal dialysis fluid source to the second fluid line at the second time.

15. The dialysis fluid system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one pump supplies the blood treatment pressure and the peritoneal dialysis pressure.

16. The dialysis fluid system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one pump is a peristaltic pump.

17. The dialysis fluid system of claim 15 , wherein the first fluid line is provided at the first time and the second fluid line is provided at the second time.

18. A dialysis system comprising:

an online blood treatment fluid source and a treatment fluid pump provided at a first time, the treatment fluid pump positioned and arranged to deliver blood treatment fluid via the online blood treatment fluid source;

a dialyzer provided at the first time and positioned and arranged to receive blood treatment fluid from the online blood treatment fluid source at a first pressure;

at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid separate from the treatment fluid pump provided at a second time; and

at least one pump positioned and arranged to pump peritoneal dialysis fluid from the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid to a patient at the second time and at a second pressure.

19. The dialysis system of claim 18 , wherein the peritoneal dialysis fluid is pumped through the dialyzer to the patient at the second time.

20. The dialysis system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one source of peritoneal dialysis fluid is a premade source of peritoneal dialysis fluid.

21. The dialysis fluid system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one pump is a peristaltic pump.
