Abstract

Methods and apparatus to provide voice communication inoperative condition notifications are disclosed. An apparatus includes an error capture to: transmit a request to a voice over internet protocol processor that serves a first voice over internet protocol user and a second voice over internet protocol user, the request indicating that the error capture is to be subscribed to receive voice over internet protocol notifications from the voice over internet protocol processor; and a notifier to: determine a voice over internet protocol user identifier associated with a first notification; determine a video distribution system user identifier associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier; and transmit a third notification to the video distribution system, the third notification instructing the video distribution system to cause an indication of the first notification to be presented on a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

Claims (39)

1. An apparatus for providing voice notifications in a video distribution system, the apparatus comprising:

an error capture to:

transmit a request to a voice over internet protocol processor that serves a first voice over internet protocol user and a second voice over internet protocol user, the request indicating that the error capture is to be subscribed to receive voice over internet protocol notifications from the voice over internet protocol processor;

access first and second notifications received from the voice over internet protocol processor, the first notification associated with the first voice over internet protocol user and the second notification associated with the second first voice over internet protocol user; and

a notifier to:

determine a voice over internet protocol user identifier associated with the first notification;

determine a video distribution system user identifier associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier; and

transmit a third notification to the video distribution system, the third notification instructing the video distribution system to cause an indication of the first notification to be presented on a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

2. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive voice over internet protocol notifications for a plurality of users of a voice over internet protocol system.

3. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the request is a session initiation protocol SUBSCRIBE message.

4. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive notifications when an inoperative condition occurs in a communication session with a voice over internet protocol destination.

5. The apparatus as defined in claim 4 , wherein the inoperative condition is at least one of unconditional call forwarding is enabled for the voice over internet protocol destination, the voice over internet protocol destination fails to register with the voice over internet protocol processor, the voice over internet protocol destination cannot be reached due to a network error, a voice over internet protocol communication session was interrupted by a network error, and the voice over internet protocol destination does not support a communication protocol associated with a voice over internet protocol communication session for the voice over internet protocol destination.

6. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , further including a database to associate the voice over internet protocol user identifier with the video distribution system user identifier.

7. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the video distribution system is an internet protocol television distribution system.

8. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein a voice over internet protocol user device associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier is located at a same location as a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

9. The apparatus as defined in claim 1 , further including a filter to:

determine if the first notification meets a criterion; and

when the first notification meets the criterion, transmit the first notification to the notifier.

10. A method for providing voice notifications in a video distribution system, the method comprising:

transmitting a request to a voice over internet protocol processor that serves a first voice over internet protocol user and a second voice over internet protocol user, the request being a request to subscribe to receive voice over internet protocol notifications from the voice over internet protocol processor;

obtaining, from the voice over internet protocol processor, a first notification associated with the first voice over internet protocol user and a second notification associated with second first voice over internet protocol user;

determining, by executing an instruction with a processor, a voice over internet protocol user identifier associated with the first notification;

determining, by executing an instruction with the processor, a video distribution system user identifier associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier; and

transmitting a third notification to the video distribution system, the third notification instructing the video distribution system to cause an indication of the first notification to be presented on a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

11. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive voice over internet protocol notifications for a plurality of users of a voice over internet protocol system.

12. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein the request is a session initiation protocol SUBSCRIBE message.

13. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive notifications when an inoperative condition occurs in a communication session with a voice over internet protocol destination.

14. The method as defined in claim 13 , wherein the inoperative condition is at least one of: unconditional call forwarding is enabled for the voice over internet protocol destination, the voice over internet protocol destination fails to register with the voice over internet protocol processor, the voice over internet protocol destination cannot be reached due to a network error, a voice over internet protocol communication session was interrupted by a network error, and the voice over internet protocol destination does not support a communication protocol associated with a voice over internet protocol communication session for the voice over internet protocol destination.

15. The method as defined in claim 10 , wherein a voice over internet protocol user device associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier is located at a same location as a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

16. A physical storage device comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a machine to perform a method comprising:

transmitting a request to a voice over internet protocol processor that serves a first voice over internet protocol user and a second voice over internet protocol user, the request being a request to subscribe to receive voice over internet protocol notifications from the voice over internet protocol processor;

access a first notification associated with the first voice over internet protocol user and a second notification associated with second first voice over internet protocol user;

determining a voice over internet protocol user identifier associated with the first notification;

determining a video distribution system user identifier associated with the voice over internet protocol user identifier; and

transmitting a third notification to a video distribution system, the third notification instructing the video distribution system to cause an indication of the first notification to be presented on a video presentation device associated with the video distribution system user identifier.

17. The physical storage device as defined in claim 16 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive voice over internet protocol notifications for a plurality of users of a voice over internet protocol system.

18. The tangible machine readable storage medium as defined in claim 16 , wherein the request is a session initiation protocol SUBSCRIBE message.

19. The physical storage device as defined in claim 16 , wherein the request is a request to be subscribed to receive notifications when an inoperative condition occurs in a communication session with a voice over internet protocol destination.

20. The physical storage device as defined in claim 19 , wherein the inoperative condition is at least one of: unconditional call forwarding is enabled for the voice over internet protocol destination, the voice over internet protocol destination fails to register with the voice over internet protocol processor, the voice over internet protocol destination cannot be reached due to a network error, a voice over internet protocol communication session was interrupted by a network error, and the voice over internet protocol destination does not support a communication protocol associated with a voice over internet protocol communication session for the voice over internet protocol destination.
