A method of treating a patient having short bowel syndrome with less (as compared to a normal healthy individual), but some detectable, GLP-2 producing tissue, who receives an amount of parenteral nutrition each week, and who presents with colon-in-continuity with remnant small intestine, said method comprising administering h(Gly2)GLP-2 to said patient using a dosing regimen effective to increase the amount of GLP-2 producing tissue of said patient.
. A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the h(Gly2)GLP-2 is administered at a daily dose of from 5 to 500 μg/kg.
. A method as defined in claim 2 , wherein the h(Gly2)GLP-2 is administered at a daily dose of from 30 to 150 μg/kg.
. A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the h(Gly2)GLP-2 is administered by subcutaneous injection.
. A method as defined in claim 4 , wherein the subcutaneous injection is into the abdomen, thigh, or arm.
