Abstract

The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for an electrotherapeutic system including a first and second electrode. Each electrode includes a respective resistance wherein during operation of the electrotherapeutic system, an electrochemical reaction involving one or both of the electrodes varies the respective resistance of at least one of the electrodes.

Claims (28)

1. A method of manufacturing a current distribution element for an electrotherapeutic system, the current distribution element including a power source connector for connecting to a power source, the current distribution element further including a first electrode connected to a first conductor, and a second electrode connected to a second conductor, the first and second conductor being operably coupled to the power source connector, the method comprising:

utilizing a first metallic composition for the first electrode and the first conductor;

simultaneously printing the first electrode and the first conductor, wherein the first conductor is electrically connected to the first electrode;

utilizing a second metallic composition for the second electrode and the second conductor;

simultaneously printing the second electrode and the second conductor, wherein the second conductor is electrically connected to the second electrode, wherein the second conductor is separated from the first conductor by a gap;

providing a power source connector comprising a power source and a conductive bracket; and

operably attaching the power source connector to the first conductor and the second conductor using a Z-axis conductive tape that extends across the gap between the first conductor and the second conductor, the Z-axis conductive tape being exclusively electrically conductive in its Z-axis direction, and the Z-axis conductive tape being adapted to adhere and electrically connect the power source to one of the first conductor and the second conductor and the conductive bracket to the other of the first conductor and the second conductor.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first metallic composition comprises Ag.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first metallic composition comprises Ag/AgCl.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second metallic composition comprises Ag.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second metallic composition comprises Ag/AgCl.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously printing the first electrode and the second electrode.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously printing the first conductor and the second conductor.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first and second metallic compositions are identical.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first and second metallic compositions comprise Ag.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first and second metallic compositions comprise Ag/AgCl.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

utilizing the first metallic composition and the second metallic composition for a third conductor; and

printing the third conductor in the gap, the third conductor separated from the first conductor and the second conductor.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a non-conductive substrate, wherein the first electrode, first conductor, second electrode, and second conductor are printed on the substrate.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein printing the third conductor is simultaneous with printing the first electrode and the first conductor.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein printing the third conductor is simultaneous with printing the second electrode and the second conductor.

15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising printing an electrical resistor connecting the first conductor and the third conductor.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the electrical resistor comprises carbon ink.

17. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

connecting the second conductor and the third conductor with the power source connector.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the power source connector comprises a battery.

19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising printing a dielectric ink over at least a portion of the first, second, or third conductors.
