Syndecan peptides and polypeptides and uses thereof
The invention provides for peptides from syndecan 1 and methods of use therefor. These peptides can inhibit α4β6 interaction with HER2, thereby preventing tumor cell growth and tissue invasion. The peptides can further be used to inhibit scarring and/or to inhibit pathologic neovascularization in a subject.
1. A method of inhibiting scarring or inhibiting pathologic neovascularization in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a peptide segment consisting of between 30 and 100 amino acid residues and comprising residues 210-235 of SEQ ID NO:1, whereby scarring or pathologic neovascularization is inhibited in the subject.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein scarring is inhibited in the subject.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein pathologic neovascularization is inhibited in the subject.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide segment is 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 or 100 amino acid residues in length.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide segment is between 31 and 80 amino acid residues in length.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the peptide segment is between 31 and 61 amino acid residues in length.
7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the peptide segment is between 61 and 80 amino acid residues in length.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the peptide segment is between 66 and 80 amino acid residues in length.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide segment consists essentially of residues 210-235 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:2) or residues 210-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:3).
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide segment comprises residues 210-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:3).
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide segment consists essentially of residues 210-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:3), residues 210-249 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:4), residues 175-235 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:5) or residues 175-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:6).
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the peptide segment consists of residues 210-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:3), residues 210-249 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:4), residues 175-235 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:5) or residues 175-240 of SEQ ID NO:1 (SEQ ID NO:6).
13. The method of claim 3 , wherein the pathological neovascularization involves activated vascular endothelial cells.
