Abstract

Disclosed is the technology for computer-based “Daily Brief” service, which includes methods and corresponding systems for proactively providing push notifications for users of chat information systems. The push notifications are dynamically generated and presented to the user based on identification of one or more triggering events, which may include predetermined time/date, current geographical location, activity of peers and friends in social media associated with the user, scheduled events, appointments, meetings, emails, instant messages, and many more. The described technology improves the interaction interface between the user and chat information system.

Claims (58)

1. A method for proactively delivering push notifications in a chat information system (CIS), the method comprising:

identifying, by a processor of a user device operatively coupled to a memory of the user device, at least one triggering event;

receiving, at the user device, a push notification comprising metadata for the user device to submit to a networked server;

in response to the push notification being opened by a user via interacting with the user device, generating, by the processor, a request to obtain information associated with the at least one triggering event from the networked server, wherein the request comprises the metadata of the push notification;

receiving, at the user device and from the networked server, information in response to the request;

generating, by the processor of the user device, a push notification message for the user, wherein the push notification message contains the information received from the networked server and is associated, at least in part, with the at least one triggering event; and

providing, by the processor of the user device, the push notification message to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes schedule information associated with the user.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes one or more personal communications associated with the user, wherein the personal communications are associated with one or more of the following: an email, a text message, an instant message, a blog post, a social networking site message, and a voice message.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes one or more news items or one or more news feeds.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes one or more social networking site information items.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes one or more weather information items.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes current time or date.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the push notification message includes one or more dialog recommendations to initiate interaction of the user with the CIS.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the processor, a current geographical location associated with the user; and

wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event is based at least in part on determining that the user is present within one of a predetermined geographical location or predetermined geographical area.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event includes recognizing, by the processor, presence of one or more peripheral electronic devices within a predetermined distance from the current geographical location associated with the user device.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processor, a speech-based user input;

recognizing, by the processor, at least a part of the speech-based user input to generate a recognized user input; and

wherein the identifying the at least one triggering event includes recognizing, by the processor, one or more predetermined words in the recognized input.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event includes recognizing, by the processor, one or more events associated with at least one social networking or blogging site.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the processor, a current time associated with the user; and

wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event is based at least in part on determination that the current time relates to a predetermined time value.

14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the processor, a current time associated with the user; and

wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event includes recognizing, by the processor, one or more calendar events scheduled within a predetermined time period from the current time.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying of the at least one triggering event includes recognizing, by the processor, presence of a user device within one or more wireless networks.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a part of the push notification message is provided as one or more displayable messages.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a part of the push notification message is provided as one or more audio messages.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a part of the push notification message is provided as one or more actionable messages.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processor, a user selection of the at least one of the actionable messages; and

generating, by the processor, a response to the user selection.

20. A chat information system (CIS), the system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions, that when executed by one or more of the processors, cause one or more of the processors to:

identify at least one triggering event;

receive, at a user device, a push notification comprising metadata for a user device to submit to a networked server;

in response to the push notification being opened by a user via interacting with the user device, generate a request to obtain information associated with the at least one triggering event from the networked server, wherein the request comprises the metadata of the push notification;

receive, at the user device and from the networked server, information in response to the request;

generate a push notification message for the user, wherein the push notification message contains the information received from the networked server and is associated, at least in part, with the at least one triggering event; and

provide the push notification message to the user.

21. The CIS of claim 20 , wherein the instructions further cause one or more of the processors to render the push notification message to the user via the user device.

22. The CIS of claim 21 , wherein the instructions to render the push notification message to the user via the user device further include instructions to convert the push notification message from text-to-speech.

23. The CIS of claim 21 , wherein the instructions to render the push notification message further cause one or more of the processors to provide the push notification message as one or more audio messages.

24. The CIS of claim 21 , wherein the instructions to render the push notification message further cause one or more of the processors to provide the push notification message as a text message or an image message.

25. The CIS of claim 20 , wherein the CIS includes a plurality of speech recognizers.

26. The CIS of claim 20 , wherein the CIS includes a speech recognition module, a dialog manager, an event manager, and a recommendation manager implemented using a distributed computing module.

27. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to implement a method for proactive delivering push notifications in a chat information system (CIS), the method comprising:

identifying at least one triggering event;

receiving, at a user device, a push notification comprising metadata for the user device to submit to a networked server;

in response to the push notification being opened by a user via interacting with the user device, generating a request to obtain information associated with the at least one triggering event from the networked server, wherein the request comprises the metadata of the push notification;

receive, at the user device and from the networked server, information in response to the request;

generating a push notification message for the user, wherein the push notification message contains the information received from the networked server and is associated, at least in part, with the at least one triggering event; and

providing, in response to the speech-based user input, the push notification message to the user.
