Abstract

The organic electroluminescence display device of an embodiment of the present invention includes a substrate, a plurality of pixels formed on the substrate, and a sealing film that covers the plurality of pixels. The sealing film includes a first barrier layer, a base layer covering the top surface of the first barrier layer, an inter layer locally formed on the top surface of the base layer, and a second barrier layer covering the top surface of the base layer and the top surface of the inter layer. The inter layer is formed so as to cover a step on the top surface of the base layer.

Claims (57)

1. A display device comprising:

a first substrate;

a plurality of organic emitting elements on the first substrate, each of the organic emitting elements including an anode, an organic emitting layer on the anode, and a cathode on the organic emitting layer, the organic emitting elements sharing the cathode;

an insulation film exposing a part of the anode and covering an edge of the anode of each of the organic emitting elements; and

a sealing film covering the organic emitting elements and the insulation film, the sealing film including a first barrier layer, a base layer including silicon oxide or amorphous silicon on the first barrier layer, an organic layer on the base layer, and a second barrier layer on the base layer and the organic layer, a first thickness of the first barrier layer being thicker than a second thickness of the base layer, wherein the first barrier layer includes SiN or SiON, and the second barrier layer includes SiN or SiON,

wherein the sealing film includes a first region where the first barrier layer, the base layer, and the second barrier layer are laminated and the second barrier layer is in physical contact with the base layer; and a second region where the first barrier layer, the base layer, the organic layer, and the second barrier layer are laminated.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of second regions including the second region, and

wherein the first region is arranged between two of the second regions in a cross sectional view.

3. The display device according to claim 2 , wherein both the organic emitting layer and the cathode cover the insulation film,

wherein the cathode includes a first portion directly above the insulation film, a second portion in an opening of the insulation film, and a third portion between the first portion and the second portion, and

wherein the first region is arranged directly above the first and second portions and the second region is arranged directly above the third portion.

4. The display device according to claim 1 , further comprising: a filler on the sealing film; and a second substrate on the filler.

5. The display device according to claim 2 , wherein a first contact angle of the organic layer with respect to the base layer is smaller than a second contact angle of the insulation film with respect to the anode.

6. A display device comprising:

a first substrate;

a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix on the first substrate, each of the pixels including a pixel circuit and an organic emitting element connected to the pixel circuit, the pixel circuit including a first thin film transistor and a second thin film transistor connected to the first thin film transistor, the organic emitting element including an anode connected to the first thin film transistor, an organic emitting layer on the anode, and a cathode on the organic emitting layer;

an insulation film exposing a part of the anode and covering an edge of the anode; and

a sealing film covering the pixel circuit, the organic emitting element, and the insulation film, the sealing film including a first inorganic layer having a first thickness, a base layer including silicon oxide or amorphous silicon on the first inorganic layer and having a second thickness smaller than the first thickness, an organic layer on the base layer, and a second inorganic layer on the organic layer, wherein the first inorganic layer includes SiN or SiON, and the second inorganic layer includes SiN or SiON,

wherein the sealing film includes a first region where the first inorganic layer, the base layer, and the second inorganic layer are laminated and the second inorganic layer is in physical contact with the base layer; and a second region where the first inorganic layer, the base layer, the organic layer, and the second inorganic layer are laminated.

7. The display device according to claim 6 , further comprising a plurality of second regions including the second region,

wherein the first region is arranged between two of the second regions in a cross sectional view, and

wherein the first inorganic layer includes a first barrier layer, and the second inorganic layer includes a second barrier layer.

8. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein both

the organic emitting layer and the cathode cover the insulation film,

the insulation film has an opening exposing the part of the anode and a top surface located outside the opening,

the anode has an exposed region which is exposed by the opening,

the cathode includes a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion between the first and second portions,

the first portion is located directly above the top surface,

the second portion is located directly above a part of the exposed region and does not face an entirety of the exposed region,

the third portion overlaps an outer periphery of the part of exposed region in a planar view,

the first region is located directly above both the first and second portions, and

the second region is located directly above the third portion.

9. The display device according to claim 6 , further comprising: a filler on the sealing film; and a second substrate on the filler.

10. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein a first contact angle of the organic layer with respect to the base layer is smaller than a second contact angle of the insulation film with respect to the anode.

11. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein the

first thin film transistor includes a semiconductor layer,

wherein the insulation film has an opening exposing the part of the anode,

wherein both the part of the anode and an edge portion of the insulation film overlap the semiconductor layer in plan view, and

wherein the second region overlaps the semiconductor layer.

12. A display device comprising:

a first substrate;

a plurality of organic emitting elements on the first substrate, each of the organic emitting elements including an anode, an organic emitting layer on the anode, and a cathode on the organic emitting layer, the organic emitting elements sharing the cathode;

an insulation film exposing a part of the anode and covering an edge of the anode; and

a sealing film covering the organic emitting elements and the insulation film, the sealing film including a first layer including SiON or SiN and having a first thickness, a second layer including silicon oxide or amorphous silicon on the first layer and having a second thickness smaller than the first thickness, an organic layer on the second layer, and a third layer including SiON or SiN on the organic layer,

wherein the sealing film includes a first region where the first layer, the second layer, and the third layer are laminated without the organic layer; and a second region where the first layer, the second layer, the organic layer, and the third layer are laminated.

13. The display device according to claim 12 , further comprising a plurality of second regions including the second region,

wherein the first region is arranged between two of the second regions in cross sectional view.

14. The display device according to claim 13 , wherein both the organic emitting layer and the cathode cover the insulation film,

the insulation film has an opening exposing the part of the anode and a top surface located outside the opening,

the anode has an exposed region which is exposed by the opening,

the cathode includes a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion between the first and second portions,

the first portion is located directly above the top surface,

the second portion is located directly above a part of the exposed region and does not face an entirety of the exposed region,

the third portion overlaps an outer periphery of the part of exposed region in a planar view,

the first region is located directly above both the first and second portions, and

the second region is located directly above the third portion.

15. The display device according to claim 13 , wherein a first contact angle of the organic layer with respect to the second layer is smaller than a second contact angle of the insulation film with respect to the anode.
