Abstract

A display system includes a display and a control circuit operable with the display. The display is configured to provide visual output having a presentation orientation. When user input is received, the control circuit can alter the presentation orientation from an initial orientation in response to user input. When non-user events or device events are detected, the control circuit can revert the presentation orientation to the initial orientation in response to the non-user event or device event. Where the presentation orientation has a user input configuration associated therewith, the user input configuration can either be altered with the presentation orientation or retained in an initial disposition.

Claims (36)

1. A method of orienting visual output on a device comprising:

initiating a presentation of the visual output via a display device;

responsive to receiving a user input, altering a presentation orientation of the visual output from a first orientation to a second orientation;

detecting a non user event, the non-user event comprising an event that occurs in absence of intentional user input to a user interface of the device, the non-user event including passively detected wellness conditions associated with a user wearing the device; and

responsive to detecting the non-user event, reverting the presentation orientation of the visual output to the first orientation.

2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first orientation is determined relative to a top of the display device or relative to gravity.

3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first orientation and the second orientation are associated with a first user input configuration.

4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first orientation is associated with a first user input configuration and the second orientation is associated with a second user input configuration that is different than the first user input configuration.

5. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the user input comprises a swipe gesture on a surface of a touch-sensitive display device, a tilt of the display device, or audio input.

6. A system comprising a processor;

one or more computer-readable storage media comprising instructions stored thereon that, responsive to execution by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

initiating a presentation of a visual output via a display device;

responsive to receiving a user input, altering a presentation orientation of the visual output from a first orientation to a second orientation;

detecting a non-user event, the non-user event comprising a wellness condition sensed by a wellness sensor; and

responsive to detecting the non-user event, reverting the presentation orientation of the visual output to the first orientation.

7. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the first orientation is determined relative to a top of the display device or relative to the earth.

8. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the second orientation comprises an alteration in at least one of color, resolution, scaling, or magnification of the visual output.

9. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the wellness condition sensed by the wellness sensor comprises at least one of pulse, temperature, heartbeat, perspiration, or blood sugar level.

10. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the first orientation and the second orientation are associated with a first user input configuration.

11. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the first orientation is associated with a first user input configuration and the second orientation is associated with a second user input configuration that is different than the first user input configuration.

12. An apparatus comprising:

a display;

a wellness sensor;

one or more processors; and

one or more computer-readable storage media comprising instructions stored thereon that, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

initiate a presentation of visual output on the display;

responsive to receipt of a user input, alter a presentation orientation of the visual output from a first orientation to a second orientation;

detect a non-user event, the non-user event comprising a wellness condition sensed by the wellness sensor; and responsive to detection of the non-user event, revert the presentation orientation of the visual output to the first orientation.

13. The apparatus as recited in claim 12 , further comprising an accelerometer or a gyroscope, wherein the first orientation is determined through a detection of gravity by the accelerometer or the gyroscope.

14. The apparatus as recited in claim 12 , wherein the wellness condition sensed by the wellness sensor comprises at least one of a pulse, a temperature, a heartbeat, perspiration, or a blood sugar level.

15. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the altering the presentation orientation of the visual output alters a portion of the visual output on the display device.

16. The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein a remaining portion of the visual output on the display device remains in the first orientation.

17. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the passively detected wellness condition include pulse, temperature, heartbeat, blood sugar levels, or perspiration of the user.

18. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the passively detected wellness conditions comprise an increased, decreased, or abnormal heartbeat, pulse, perspiration, temperature, or blood sugar level.

19. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein detecting the non-user event and the well ness condition initiates presentation of a wellness health reminder.

20. The apparatus as recited in claim 12 , wherein the instructions are further configured to provide early warnings that anticipate health events based upon the sensed wellness condition.
