Abstract

A dual poppet valve assembly for a pump assembly of an implantable penile prosthesis having a suction poppet engagable by a plurality of fingers allowing free travel of the poppet and to prevent vacuum lockup of the pump assembly. The suction poppet can also include an elongated shaft receivable within a corresponding bore of a cylinder poppet to prevent the suction poppet from becoming misaligned during the operation of the pump assembly.

Claims (31)

1. A valve assembly positionable within a housing for an implantable penile prosthesis for moving fluid along a valve flow path, the valve assembly comprising:

a valve chamber extending along a central valve chamber axis;

a suction poppet configured to move along the central valve chamber axis, the suction poppet including a shaft;

a cylinder poppet configured to move along the central valve chamber axis between an engaged position and a disengaged position, the cylinder poppet including a shaft and a bore, the shaft of the suction poppet being slidably received within the bore of the cylinder poppet to retain axial alignment of the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis;

a cylinder defining a bore for receiving the shaft of the cylinder poppet, the bore being configured to guide the cylinder poppet along the central valve chamber axis between the engaged position and the disengaged position such that the cylinder poppet is prevented from moving along an axis transverse to the central valve chamber axis; and

a release button configured to allow the fluid to flow in reverse through the valve flow path.

2. The valve assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder poppet includes cylinder poppet spring, wherein the cylinder poppet spring is positioned over the shaft of the cylinder poppet and the cylinder, and wherein the cylinder retains axial alignment of the cylinder poppet spring along the central valve chamber axis.

3. The valve assembly of claim 1 , wherein the valve chamber includes a suction annulus, the suction annulus including a plurality of protruding fingers, the suction poppet being positioned through the suction annulus such that the plurality of protruding fingers retain the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.

4. The valve assembly of claim 3 , wherein the central valve chamber axis is perpendicular to the suction annulus.

5. The valve assembly of claim 1 , wherein the release button is actuatable along the central valve chamber axis such that the release button contacts an elongated head of the suction poppet so as to slidably direct the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.

6. A valve assembly positionable within a housing for an implantable penile prosthesis for moving fluid along a valve flow path, the valve assembly comprising:

a valve chamber extending along a central valve chamber axis, the valve chamber including a pump bulb opening, and a suction annulus, the pump bulb opening fluidly connected to the valve flow path, the suction annulus including a plurality of protruding fingers;

a suction poppet, positioned within the valve flow path, configured to move along the central valve chamber axis, the suction poppet being positioned trough the suction annulus such that the plurality of protruding fingers retain the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis;

a cylinder poppet, positioned within the valve flow path, configured to move along the central valve chamber axis, the cylinder poppet including a shaft; and

a cylinder defining a bore for receiving the shaft of the cylinder poppet.

7. The valve assembly of claim 6 , wherein the bore of the cylinder is configured to guide the cylinder poppet along the central valve chamber axis between an engaged position and a disengaged position such that the cylinder poppet is providing from moving along an axis transverse to the central valve chamber axis.

8. The valve assembly of claim 6 , wherein the cylinder poppet includes cylinder poppet spring, wherein the cylinder poppet spring is positioned over the shaft of the cylinder poppet and the cylinder, and wherein the cylinder retains axial alignment of the cylinder poppet spring along the central valve chamber axis.

9. The valve assembly of claim 6 , wherein the central valve chamber axis is perpendicular to the suction annulus.

10. The valve assembly of claim 6 , further comprising a release button, the release button being actuatable along the central valve chamber axis such that the release button contacts an elongated head of the suction poppet so as to slidably direct the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.

11. A valve assembly positionable within a housing for an implantable penile prosthesis for moving fluid along a valve flow path, the valve assembly comprising:

a valve chamber extending along a central valve chamber axis, the valve chamber including a pump bulb opening fluidly connected to the valve flow path;

a suction poppet, positioned within the valve flow path, configured to move along the central valve chamber axis, the suction poppet including an elongated head;

a cylinder poppet, positioned within the valve flow path, configured to move along the central valve chamber axis; and

a release button configured to allow the fluid to flow in reverse through the valve flow path, the release button configured to actuate the suction poppet, the release button contacting the elongated head on the suction poppet to direct the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.

12. The valve assembly of claim 11 , wherein the valve chamber includes a suction annulus, the suction annulus including a plurality of protruding fingers, the elongated head being positioned through the suction annulus such that the plurality of protruding fingers retain the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.

13. The valve assembly of claim 12 , wherein the central valve chamber axis is perpendicular to the suction annulus.

14. The valve assembly of claim 11 , further comprising:

a cylinder having a bore,

wherein the cylinder poppet includes a shaft that is slidably received within the bore of the cylinder, the bore of the cylinder configured to guide the cylinder poppet along the central valve chamber axis between an engaged position and a disengaged position such that the cylinder poppet is providing from moving along an axis transverse to the central valve chamber axis.

15. The valve assembly of claim 14 , wherein the cylinder poppet includes a cylinder poppet spring, wherein the cylinder poppet spring is positioned over the shaft of the cylinder poppet and the cylinder, and wherein the cylinder retains axial alignment of the cylinder poppet spring along the central valve chamber axis.

16. The valve assembly of claim 14 , wherein the cylinder poppet includes a bore and the suction poppet includes a shaft, the shaft of the suction poppet being slidably received within the bore of the cylinder poppet to retain axial alignment of the suction poppet along the central valve chamber axis.
