Method of identifying a biologically-active composition from a biofilm
The subject invention provides materials and methods that effectively support innate immunity and/or disperse pathogenic biofilms using readily available, nontoxic, natural substances, while supporting restoration of normal microbiotic homeostasis. In one embodiment, the subject invention provides anti-biofilm compositions comprising one or more probiotic organisms, anti-microbial honey, and other ingredients such as prebiotic compounds, other hive products, green tea derivatives, other plant derivatives, and vitamin D3.
1. A cosmetic composition comprising a biologically-active composition, wherein the biologically-active composition is obtained by a method comprising the steps of:
(a) growing biofilm cellular mass, which has biological activity, in a biological growth medium;
(b) combining said biofilm cellular mass, with a cosmetic carrier to form said cosmetic composition; wherein the composition is formulated as a soap, lotion, ointment or cream that comprises said biofilm cellular mass.
2. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 1 , wherein the biological activity of said biofilm cellular mass is anti-microbial activity or anti-inflammatory activity.
3. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 1 , wherein the microbe is a Lactobacillus.
4. A cosmetic composition comprising biologically-active biofilm cellular mass and a carrier suitable for cosmetic use wherein the composition is formulated as a soap, lotion, ointment or cream.
5. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 4 , wherein the biologically-active biofilm cellular mass is non-viable.
6. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 4 , wherein the biologically-active biofilm cellular mass is of a microbe selected from Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium , and Lactobacillus.
7. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 6 , comprising biologically-active Lactobacillus biofilm cellular mass.
8. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 7 , wherein the composition comprises non-viable biologically-active Lactobacillus biofilm cellular mass.
9. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 4 , wherein the biological activity of said biofilm cellular mass is anti-microbial activity and/or anti-inflammatory activity.
10. The cosmetic composition, according to claim 4 , further comprising one or more vitamins, emollients, plant extracts, and essential oils.
11. The composition, according to claim 4 , comprising a biosurfactant.
