Abstract

Systems and methods for processing, transmitting and displaying data received from an analyte sensor, such as a glucose sensor, are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method for transmitting data between a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor and a second communication device configured to provide user access to sensor-related information comprises: activating a transceiver of a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor at a first time; and establishing a two-way communication channel with the second communication device; wherein the activating comprises waking the transceiver from a low power sleep mode using a forced wakeup from the second communication device.

Claims (17)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method for transmitting data between a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor and a second communication device configured to provide user access to sensor-related information, the method comprising:

activating a transceiver of a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor at a first time;

establishing a two-way communication channel with the second communication device; and

wherein the activating comprises waking the transceiver from a low power sleep mode using a forced wakeup transmitted from the second communication device using a short-range communication.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the establishing the two-way communication channel includes using authentication information related to the transceiver, wherein the authentication information comprises a transmitter serial number.

23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the first communication device comprises a tag associated with the short-range communication powered by the second communication device.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the second communication device is configured to engage in the short-range communication with the first communication device, and wherein the second communication device comprises an initiator associated with the short-range communication.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the second communication device comprises a software application that allows a user to initiate the short-range communication with the first communication device.

26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the software application instructs the user to place the second communication device in close proximity to the first communication device.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein close proximity comprises a distance that is less than 12 inches.

28 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending sensor-related information to the second communication device using the two-way communication channel during a transmission window; and

deactivating the transceiver of the first communication device at a second time.

29 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising sending a calibration value to the first communication device and receiving an updated glucose value at the second communication device.

30 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising sending new setting information to the first communication device.

31 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the first communication device and the second communication device are paired using the short-range communication.
