Abstract

A compound having a ligand L A of Formula I, is described. In the structure of Formula I, A is five-membered or six-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; B is a five-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; each of Z 0 to Z 6 is selected from nitrogen and carbon; each R 1 to R 4 is independently selected from a variety of substituents; any two adjacent substituents are optionally joined or fused into a ring; ligand L A is coordinated to Pt; and the ligand L A is optionally linked with one or more other ligands. Formulations and devices, such as OLEDs, that include the first compound are also provided.

Claims (80)

1. A compound having a formula of Pt(L A )(L B ), wherein ligand L A has a structure of:

or

wherein A is five-membered or six-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring;

wherein B is a five-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring;

wherein each of Z 0 , Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 3 , Z 4 , Z 5 and Z 6 is independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen or carbon;

wherein X and Y are each independently selected from a group consisting of O, S, Se, NR 22 , and CR 23 R 24 ;

wherein each of R 1 , R 21 , R 3 , and R 4 independently represents no substituents up to a maximum possible number of substituents;

wherein R 2 represents two substituents up to a maximum possible number of substituents;

wherein each R 1 , R 2 , R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 24 , R 3 and R 4 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;

wherein two adjacent substituents of R 2 are fused into a ring;

wherein any two adjacent substituents are optionally joined or fused into a ring;

wherein the ligand L A is coordinated to Pt through the bonds indicated by the dashed lines; and

wherein the ligand L A is linked with ligand L B to form a tetradentate ligand.

2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Z 0 is N, Z 1 is C.

3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Z 0 is C, Z 1 is N.

4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Z 2 , Z 3 , Z 4 , Z 5 and Z 6 are C.

5. The compound of claim 1 , wherein at least one of Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 3 , Z 4 , Z 6 and Z 6 is N.

6. The compound of claim 1 , wherein ring A is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, pyridine, pyrimidine, triazine, imidazole, pyrazole, oxazole, and thiazole.

7. The compound of claim 1 , wherein ring B is selected from the group consisting of pyrrole, furan, thiophene, and cyclopentadiene.

8. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the ligand L A is selected from the group consisting of:

9. The compound of claim 1 , wherein L A and L B are connected at two places to form a macrocyclic tetradentate ligand.

10. The compound of claim 1 , wherein L B is selected from the group consisting of:

wherein each of X 1 to X 13 is independently selected from the group consisting of carbon and nitrogen;

wherein X is selected from the group consisting of BR′, NR′, PR′, O, S, Se, C═O, S═O, SO 2 , CR′R″, SiR′R″, and GeR′R″;

wherein R′ and R″ are optionally fused or joined to form a ring;

wherein each R a , R b , R c , and R d may represent from mono substitution to the possible maximum number of substitution, or no substitution;

wherein R′, R″, R a , R b , R c , and R d are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;

wherein any two adjacent substituents of R a , R b , R c , and R d are optionally fused or joined to form a ring; and

any substituent of R a , R b , R c , and R d forms a tetradentate ligand with L A .

11. The compound of claim 1 , wherein L B is selected from the group consisting of:

wherein, for each L B , L B can be linked to L A at any position by replacing a hydrogen or deuterium with a linking group selected from the group consisting of alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof.

12. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the compound is selected from the group consisting of:

wherein X is selected from the group consisting of O, S and Se.

13. The compound of claim 1 , wherein L B is selected from the group consisting of:

wherein each of X 1 to X 13 is independently selected from the group consisting of carbon and nitrogen;

wherein X is selected from the group consisting of BR′, NR′, PR′, O, S, Se, C═O, S═O, SO 2 , CR′R″, SiR′R″, and GeR′R″;

wherein R′ and R″ are optionally fused or joined to form a ring;

wherein each R a , R b , R c , and R d may represent from mono substitution to the possible maximum number of substitution, or no substitution;

wherein R′, R″, R a , R b , R c , and R d are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;

wherein any two adjacent substituents of R a are optionally fused or joined to form a ring; and

any substituent of R a , R b , R c , and R d forms a tetradentate ligand with L A .

14. A compound selected from the group consisting of:

wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of N and C;

wherein X is selected from a group consisting of O, S, Se, NR 22 , and CR 23 R 24 ;

wherein Y′ is selected from a group consisting of O, S, Se, NR 22′ , and CR 23′ R 24′ ;

wherein L is selected from the group consisting of a direct bond, O, S, Se, NR 8 , CR 9 R 10 and SiR 11 R 12 ;

wherein R 1 , R 21 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , and R 7 each independently represents no substitutions up to a maximum possible number of substituents;

wherein each R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 24 , R 22′ , R 23′ , R 24′ , R 1 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 , R 9 , R 10 , R 11 and R 12 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;

wherein any pair of substituents selected from the group consisting of R 1 and R 6 , R 4 and R 5 , R 1 and R 22 , R 1 and R 23 , and R 1 and R 24 , can be linked together;

wherein R 23 and R 24 are optionally joined or fused into a ring;

wherein R 23′ and R 24′ are optionally joined or fused into a ring;

wherein R 9 and R 10 are optionally joined or fused into a ring; and

wherein R 11 and R 12 are optionally joined or fused into a ring.

15. A formulation comprising a compound as claimed in claim 1 .

16. An organic light-emitting device (OLED) comprising:

an anode;

a cathode; and

an organic layer, disposed between the anode and the cathode, comprising a compound having a formula of Pt(L A )(L B ), wherein ligand L A has a structure of:

or

wherein A is five-membered or six-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring;

wherein B is a five-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring;

wherein each of Z 0 , Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 3 , Z 4 , Z 5 and Z 6 is independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen or carbon;

wherein X and Y are each independently selected from a group consisting of O, S, Se, NR 22 , and CR 23 R 24 ;

wherein each of R 1 , R 21 , R 3 , and R 4 independently represents no substituents up to a maximum possible number of substituents;

wherein R 2 represents two substituents up to a maximum possible number of substituents;

wherein each R 1 , R 2 , R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 24 , R 3 and R 4 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;

wherein two adjacent substituents of R 2 are fused into a ring;

wherein any two adjacent substituents are optionally joined or fused into a ring;

wherein the ligand L A is coordinated to Pt through the bonds indicated by the dashed lines; and

wherein the ligand L A is linked with ligand L B to form a tetradentate ligand.

17. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the OLED is adapted to be incorporated into a device selected from the group consisting of a consumer product, an electronic component module, and a lighting panel.

18. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the organic layer is an emissive layer and the compound is an emissive dopant or a non-emissive dopant.

19. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the organic layer further comprises a host, wherein the host comprises a triphenylene containing benzo-fused thiophene or benzo-fused furan;

wherein any substituent in the host is an unfused substituent independently selected from the group consisting of C n H 2n+1 , OC n H 2n+1 , OAr 1 , N(C n H 2n+1 ) 2 , N(Ar 1 )(Ar 2 ), CH═CH—C n H 2n+1 , C≡CC n H 2n+1 , Ar 1 , Ar 1 —Ar 2 , and C n H 2n —Ar 1 , or the host has no substitution;

wherein n is from 1 to 10; and

wherein Ar 1 and Ar 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of benzene, biphenyl, naphthalene, triphenylene, carbazole, and heteroaromatic analogs thereof.

20. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the organic layer further comprises a host, wherein host comprises at least one chemical group selected from the group consisting of triphenylene, carbazole, dibenzothiophene, dibenzofuran, dibenzoselenophene, aza-triphenylene, azacarbazole, aza-dibenzothiophene, aza-dibenzofuran, and aza-dibenzoselenophene.

21. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the organic layer further comprises a host, wherein the host is selected from the group consisting of:

and combinations thereof.

22. The OLED of claim 16 , wherein the organic layer further comprises a host, wherein the host comprises a metal complex.
