Abstract

An annular combustion system includes a fuel nozzle, a panel fuel injector including a fuel plenum and at least one premixing channel therein, an inner liner having a hot side surface and a cool side surface and an outer liner having a hot side surface and a cool side surface. The inner liner, the outer liner and the panel fuel injector partially define a hot gas path downstream from the fuel nozzle. The inner liner and/or the outer liner define a plurality of micro-channel cooling passages which is disposed between the hot side surface and cool side surface of the inner liner. Each micro-channel cooling passage of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages is in fluid communication with an inlet hole defined along the cool side surface of the respective liner and an outlet hole.

an outer liner having a hot side surface and a cool side surface; and

a panel fuel injector disposed adjacent to and extending downstream from the fuel nozzle, the panel fuel injector comprising a side wall, the side wall comprising a flat surface, the flat surface of the side wall extending fully between the inner liner and the outer liner and extending downstream from an upstream end portion of the panel fuel injector, wherein the panel fuel injector includes a fuel plenum and at least one premixing channel therein, wherein the panel fuel injector extends fully between the inner liner and the outer liner whereby the inner liner, the outer liner, and the flat surface of the side wall of the panel fuel injector define a portion of a primary combustion zone downstream from the fuel nozzle, and wherein the annular combustion system further comprises a secondary combustion zone downstream of the primary combustion zone;

wherein the inner liner defines a first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages defined between the hot side surface and cool side surface of the inner liner, each micro-channel cooling passage of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages being in fluid communication with an inlet hole defined along the cool side surface of the inner liner and an outlet hole.

2. The annular combustion system as in claim 1 , further comprising a duct that extends along the cool side surface of the inner liner and forms a collection channel therebetween, wherein a respective outlet hole of one or more of the micro-channel cooling passages of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages is disposed beneath the duct and is in fluid communication with the collection channel.

3. The annular combustion system as in claim 2 , wherein the collection channel is in fluid communication with a premix air plenum defined within the panel fuel injector.

4. The annular combustion system as in claim 2 , wherein the collection channel is in fluid communication with a cooling air cavity defined within the panel fuel injector.

5. The annular combustion system as in claim 2 , wherein the collection channel is in fluid communication with a cooling air plenum defined within the panel fuel injector.

6. The annular combustion system as in claim 1 , wherein one or more of the micro-channel cooling passages of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages extends between 0.5 inches and 6 inches within the inner liner between the hot side surface and the cold side surface.

7. The annular combustion system as in claim 1 , wherein an outlet of one or more of the micro-channel cooling passages of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages is disposed on a side wall of the inner liner.

8. The annular combustion system as in claim 1 , wherein an outlet of one or more of the micro-channel cooling passages of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages is disposed on the hot side surface of the inner liner.

9. The annular combustion system as in claim 1 , wherein the outer liner defines a second plurality of micro-channel cooling passages defined between the hot side surface and the cool side surface of the outer liner, each micro-channel cooling passage of the second plurality of micro-channel cooling passages being in fluid communication with an inlet hole defined along the cool side surface of the outer liner and an outlet hole.

10. An annular combustion system, comprising:

a fuel nozzle;

an inner liner having a hot side surface and a cool side surface;

an outer liner having a hot side surface and a cool side surface, wherein the inner liner, the outer liner and the panel fuel injector partially define a hot gas path downstream from the fuel nozzle; and

a panel fuel injector disposed adjacent to and extending downstream from the fuel nozzle, the panel fuel injector comprising a side wall, the side wall comprising a flat surface, the flat surface of the side wall extending fully between the inner liner and the outer liner and extending downstream from an upstream end portion of the panel fuel injector, wherein the panel fuel injector includes a fuel plenum and at least one premixing channel therein, and wherein the panel fuel injector extends fully between the inner liner and the outer liner whereby the inner liner, the outer liner, and the flat surface of the side wall of the panel fuel injector define a portion of a primary combustion zone downstream from the fuel nozzle, and wherein the annular combustion system further comprises a secondary combustion zone downstream of the primary combustion zone;

wherein the outer liner defines a first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages defined between the hot side surface and cool side surface of the outer liner, each micro-channel cooling passage of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages being in fluid communication with an inlet hole defined along the cool side surface of the outer liner and an outlet hole.

11. The annular combustion system as in claim 10 , further comprising a duct that extends along the cool side surface of the outer liner and forms a collection channel therebetween, wherein a respective outlet hole of one or more of the micro-channel cooling passages of the first plurality of micro-channel cooling passages is disposed beneath the duct and is in fluid communication with the collection channel.
