Integrated resuscitation
An example of a resuscitation system is that includes at least two defibrillation electrodes configured to be applied to the exterior of the chest of a patient for delivering a defibrillation shock, a source of one or more ECG signals from the patient, a defibrillation circuit for delivering a defibrillation shock to the defibrillation electrodes, a control box that receives and processes the ECG signals to determine whether a defibrillation shock should be delivered or whether CPR should be performed, and that issues instructions to the user either to deliver a defibrillation shock or to perform CPR, wherein the determination of whether CPR should be performed and the instructions to perform CPR can occur at substantially any point during a rescue.
1. An apparatus for use by a rescuer to resuscitate a patient, comprising:
a housing;
a compression sensor disposed in the housing and configured to generate one or more signals indicative of one or more chest compression parameters; and
two or more buttons disposed on the housing, the two or more buttons comprising at least one button associated with ventilation and at least one button associated with the one or more chest compression parameters, wherein at least one of the two or more buttons comprises an airway button and further wherein actuation of the at least one button associated with ventilation changes resuscitation information provided for the rescuer.
2. The apparatus of claim 1 comprising one or more visual indicators disposed on the housing, wherein, upon actuation, at least one of the two or more buttons is configured to activate at least one of the one or more visual indicators.
3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein actuation of at least one of the two or more buttons pauses audible resuscitation prompting.
4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the one or more chest compression parameters comprise one or more of a chest compression depth, a chest compression rate, and a chest compression timing.
5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the housing comprises a graphical indication of a placement position for the housing on the chest of the patient.
6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the graphical indication of the placement position comprises an indication of the placement position relative to the collarbones of the patient.
7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the housing comprises an indication of a location for placement of the hands of the rescuer during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
8. An apparatus for use by a rescuer to resuscitate a patient, comprising:
a housing;
a compression sensor disposed in the housing and configured to generate one or more signals indicative of one or more chest compression parameters; and
two or more buttons disposed on the housing, the two or more buttons comprising at least one button associated with ventilation and at least one button associated with the one or more chest compression parameters, wherein actuation of at least one of the two or more buttons pauses audible resuscitation prompting and further wherein actuation of the at least one button associated with ventilation changes resuscitation information provided for the rescuer.
9. The apparatus of claim 8 comprising one or more visual indicators disposed on the housing, wherein, upon actuation, at least one of the two or more buttons is configured to activate at least one of the one or more visual indicators.
10. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein at least one of the two or more buttons comprises an airway button.
11. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein the one or more chest compression parameters comprise one or more of a chest compression depth, a chest compression rate, and a chest compression timing.
12. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein the housing comprises a graphical indication of a placement position for the housing on the chest of the patient.
13. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the graphical indication of the placement position comprises an indication of the placement position relative to the collarbones of the patient.
14. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein the housing comprises an indication of a location for placement of the hands of the rescuer during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
