Abstract

A foam mattress in which a layer of latex or latex-like foam placed above a layer of memory foam is described. This construction of the mattress provides the contouring pressure relief that a visco-elastic foam provides with a top surface with quick recovery (a latex-like “bounce”) that prevents people from getting “stuck” in the visco-elastic foam and improves the springiness of the mattress. The mattress may also include straps and cinches to aid in transportation of the mattress. The mattress may also include removable covers that aid in keeping the mattress clean.

Claims (28)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . An apparatus comprising:

a mattress, the mattress comprising a first horizontal layer, a second horizontal layer positioned below the first horizontal layer, and a third horizontal layer positioned below the second horizontal layer;

wherein the first horizontal layer comprises latex foam having a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 6 to 18 pounds;

wherein the second horizontal layer comprises memory foam having a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 6 to 18 pounds; and

wherein the third horizontal layer comprises polyurethane foam having a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 15 to 50 pounds.

22 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the first horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 2 to 4 pounds per cubic foot.

23 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the first horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 3.1 to 3.5 pounds per cubic foot.

24 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the first horizontal layer has a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 11.5 to 14.5 pounds.

25 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the first horizontal layer has a support factor of approximately at least 2.

26 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the first horizontal layer has a support factor of approximately between 3.5 to 4.2.

27 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 2 to 6 pounds per cubic foot.

28 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 3.8 to 4.2 pounds per cubic foot.

29 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 8 to 12 pounds.

30 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a recovery of approximately greater than 1 second.

31 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a recovery of approximately between 4 to 8 seconds.

32 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the second horizontal layer has a support factor of approximately less than 2.6.

33 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the third horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 1 to 4 pounds per cubic foot.

34 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the third horizontal layer has a density of approximately between 1.7 to 1.9 pounds per cubic foot.

35 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the third horizontal layer has a 25% indentation force deflection of approximately between 33 to 39 pounds.

36 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the third horizontal layer has an airflow of approximately greater than 2 cubic feet per minute.

37 . The apparatus as in claim 21 , wherein the third horizontal layer has a support factor of approximately between 1.5 to 3.5.

38 . An apparatus comprising:

a mattress, the mattress comprising a first horizontal layer, a second horizontal layer positioned below the first horizontal layer, and a third horizontal layer positioned below the second horizontal layer;

wherein the first horizontal layer comprises latex foam and has a first support factor;

wherein the second horizontal layer comprises memory foam and has a second support factor;

wherein the third horizontal layer comprises polyurethane foam;

wherein the first support factor is greater than the second support factor.
