Abstract

A user equipment (UE) may determine channel state information (CSI) reports with each CSI report being related to a component carrier. The UE may send a subframe with CSI report(s) on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). When a collision occurs in the subframe having the CSI report(s) on the PUCCH a lower priority CSI report may be dropped from the transmission.

transmitting information to a user equipment (UE) to configure the UE with a primary component carrier (CC) and a secondary CC, wherein the primary CC and the secondary CC are downlink CCs;

transmitting information to the UE to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting for both the primary CC and the secondary CC, wherein the information includes an indication of a first periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC and an indication of a second periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC is associated with the first periodicity and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC is associated with the second periodicity, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC has a first CSI reporting mode and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC has a second CSI reporting mode;

transmitting, to the UE, a medium access control (MAC) activation command for the secondary CC to activate the secondary CC;

on a condition that the secondary CC is activated, receiving, from the UE according to the second periodicity, a CSI report for the secondary CC; and

on a condition that the first periodicity collides with the second periodicity, receiving, from the UE, a CSI report for the primary CC when the first periodicity and the second periodicity are both associated with a same CSI reporting mode, and receiving, from the UE, a CSI report for the primary CC or the secondary CC based on a type of the first CSI reporting mode and a type of the second CSI reporting mode when the first CSI reporting mode and the second CSI reporting mode are different.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first CSI reporting mode or the second CSI reporting mode is rank indicator (RI).

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first CSI reporting mode or the second CSI reporting mode is channel quality indicator (CQI).

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station is an enhanced Node B.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting information to the UE to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting further comprises:

transmitting an indication of the first periodicity or the second periodicity.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein transmitting information to the UE to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting further comprises:

transmitting an indication of a subframe offset associated with the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC or an indication of a subframe offset associated with the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC.

7. A base station comprising:

a transmitter operable to transmit information to configure a user equipment (UE) with a primary component carrier (CC) and a secondary CC, wherein the primary CC and the secondary CC are downlink CCs;

the transmitter operable to transmit information to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting for both the primary CC and the secondary CC, wherein the information includes an indication of a first periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC and an indication of a second periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC is associated with the first periodicity and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC is associated with the second periodicity, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC has a first CSI reporting mode and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC has a second CSI reporting mode;

the transmitter operable to transmit, to the UE, a medium access control (MAC) activation command for the secondary CC to activate the secondary CC;

a receiver operable to receive, on a condition that the secondary CC is activated, from the UE according to the second periodicity, a CSI report for the secondary CC; and

the receiver operable to receive, on a condition that the first periodicity collides with the second periodicity, from the UE, a CSI report for the primary CC when the first periodicity and the second periodicity are both associated with a same CSI reporting mode, and to receive, from the UE, a CSI report for the primary CC or the secondary CC based on a type of the first CSI reporting mode and a type of the second CSI reporting mode when the first CSI reporting mode and the second CSI reporting mode are different.

8. The base station of claim 7 , wherein the first CSI reporting mode or the second CSI reporting mode is rank indicator (RI).

9. The base station of claim 7 , wherein first CSI reporting mode or the second CSI reporting mode is channel quality indicator (CQI).

10. The base station of claim 7 , wherein the base station is an enhanced Node B.

11. The base station of claim 7 , wherein the transmitter operable to transmit information to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting is further operable to transmit an indication of the first periodicity or the second periodicity.

12. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the transmitter operable to transmit information to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting is further operable to transmit an indication of a subframe offset associated with the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC or an indication of a subframe offset associated with the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions for use in a base station, the instructions comprising:

a first code segment for transmitting information to a user equipment (UE) to configure the UE with a primary component carrier (CC) and a secondary CC, wherein the primary CC and the secondary CC are downlink CCs;

a second code segment for transmitting information to the UE to configure the UE to perform periodic CSI reporting for both the primary CC and the secondary CC, wherein the information includes an indication of a first periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC and an indication of a second periodicity associated with periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC is associated with the first periodicity and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC is associated with the second periodicity, wherein the periodic CSI reporting for the primary CC has a first CSI reporting mode and the periodic CSI reporting for the secondary CC has a second CSI reporting mode;
