Abstract

In one embodiment, a computing server receives from a client computing device a first upload that includes a set of multimedia objects on the client computing device. The set of multimedia objects is selected by a user of the client computing device. While the upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress, the computing server concurrently receives, from the client computing device, a second upload that includes metadata entered by the user. The metadata corresponds to a subset of the multimedia objects, the subset being selected by the user from the set of multimedia objects.

Claims (62)

1. A method comprising:

by a computing server, receiving, from a client computing device, a first upload comprising a set of multimedia objects on the client computing device, wherein the set of multimedia objects is selected by a user of the client computing device; and

by the computing server, while the first upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress, concurrently receiving, from the client computing device, a second upload comprising metadata entered by the user, wherein:

the metadata corresponds to a subset of the first upload of the set of the multimedia objects being received concurrently; and

the subset of multimedia objects is selected by the user from the first upload of the set of multimedia objects being received concurrently.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the metadata is associated with at least one of the one or more multimedia objects based on data stored on the client computing device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata entered by the user comprises user input through a user interface of the client computing device, the user interface being presented to the user while the upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the client computing device establishes a connection with the computing server to upload the set of multimedia objects.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein while the set of multimedia objects is being uploaded to the computing server, a bandwidth of the connection is reduced by the uploading of the set of multimedia objects.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the client computing device is a mobile telephone.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of multimedia objects comprises one or more of:

an image file;

a text file;

a video file; or

an audio file.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata for a multimedia object comprises:

a title or description of the multimedia object;

camera settings used to capture the multimedia object;

one or more names of people depicted in the multimedia object;

a date or time the multimedia object was created;

an event during which the multimedia object was created;

the location where the multimedia object was created; or

a group of multimedia objects associated with the multimedia object.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the user of the client computing device is associated with a social-networking system;

the computing server is associated with the social-networking system; and

the uploaded set of multimedia objects are associated with the user's account on the social-networking system.

10. A system comprising:

a memory comprising instructions executable by one or more processors; and

the one or more processors coupled to the memory and operable to execute the instructions, the one or more processors being operable when executing the instructions to:

receive, from a client computing device, a first upload comprising a set of multimedia objects on the client computing device, wherein the set of multimedia objects is selected by a user of the client computing device; and

while the first upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress, concurrently receive, from the client computing device, a second upload comprising metadata entered by the user, wherein:

the metadata corresponds to a subset of the first upload of the set of the multimedia objects being received concurrently; and

the subset of multimedia objects is selected by the user from the first upload of the set of multimedia objects being received concurrently.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein at least a portion of the metadata is associated with at least one of the one or more multimedia objects based on data stored on the client computing device.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the metadata entered by the user comprises user input through a user interface of the client computing device, the user interface being presented to the user while the upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the client computing device establishes a connection with the system to upload the set of multimedia objects.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein while the set of multimedia objects is being uploaded to the system, a bandwidth of the connection is reduced by the uploading of the set of multimedia objects.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the client computing device is a mobile telephone.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the set of multimedia objects comprises one or more of:

an image file;

a text file;

a video file; or

an audio file.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the metadata for a multimedia object comprises:

a title or description of the multimedia object;

camera settings used to capture the multimedia object;

one or more names of people depicted in the multimedia object;

a date or time the multimedia object was created;

an event during which the multimedia object was created;

the location where the multimedia object was created; or

a group of multimedia objects associated with the multimedia object.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein:

the user of the client computing device is associated with a social-networking system;

the system is associated with the social-networking system; and

the uploaded set of multimedia objects are associated with the user's account on the social-networking system.

19. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software operable when executed by a computing server to:

receive, from a client computing device, a first upload comprising a set of multimedia objects on the client computing device, wherein the set of multimedia objects is selected by a user of the client computing device; and

while the first upload of the set of multimedia objects is in progress, concurrently receive, from the client computing device, a second upload comprising metadata entered by the user, wherein:

the metadata corresponds to a subset of the first upload of the set of the multimedia objects being received concurrently; and

the subset of multimedia objects is selected by the user from the first upload of the set of multimedia objects being received concurrently.

20. The media of claim 19 , wherein at least a portion of the metadata is associated with at least one of the one or more multimedia objects based on data stored on the client computing device.
