Abstract

The present invention provides compositions comprising granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and antimicrobial agents for the treatment, pre-emptive treatment or prevention of infectious peritonitis or intra-abdominal infection by intraperitoneal administration of the compositions.

Claims (25)

1 . A kit comprising:

(i) a first composition comprising a granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), molgramostim or sargramostim; and

(ii) a second composition comprising one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents, wherein said first and second compositions are formulated for intraperitoneal administration.

2 - 68 . (canceled)

69 . The kit according to claim 1 , wherein said one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents comprise fosfomycin.

70 . The kit according to claim 1 , wherein said one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents comprise fosfomycin and one or more additional antimicrobial or antibiotic agents that inhibit Bacteroides fragilis.

71 . The kit according to claim 70 , wherein said one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents is metronidazole.

72 . The kit according to claim 70 , wherein said one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agent that inhibits Bacteroides fragilis is a carbapenem or an imipenem.

73 . The kit according to claim 1 , wherein the amino acid sequence of said GM-CSF is at least 70% identical to SEQ ID NO: 1 or 2.

74 . The kit according to claim 1 , wherein said first composition comprises a dose of between 5 and 1000 micrograms of GM-CSF, molgramostim or sargramostim.

75 . The kit according to claim 1 , wherein said second composition comprises a dose of between 500 milligram and 12 gram of fosfomycin.

76 . A method for the treatment or inhibition of infectious peritonitis or intra-abdominal infection in a subject, said method comprising:

(i) administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a first composition comprising a granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), molgramostim or sargramostim; and

(ii) administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a second composition comprising one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents, wherein said first and second compositions are administered by an intraperitoneal route.

77 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), molgramostim or sargramostim and one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents.

78 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents comprise fosfomycin.

79 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the one or more antimicrobial or antibiotic agents comprise fosfomycin and one or more additional antimicrobial or antibiotic agents that inhibit Bacteroides fragilis.

80 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 79 , wherein the additional antimicrobial or antibiotic agent that inhibits Bacteroides fragilis is metronidazole.

81 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 79 , wherein the additional antimicrobial or antibiotic agent that inhibits Bacteroides fragilis is a carbapenem, or an imipenem.

82 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the antimicrobial or antibiotic agents comprise one or more antifungal agents.

83 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the GM-CSF, molgramostim or sargramostim is provided in a liposome, micelle, microcapsule or nanoparticle formulation.

84 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the amino acid sequence of the GM-CSF is at least 70% identical to SEQ ID NO: 1 or 2.

85 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the composition comprises a dose of between 5 and 1000 micrograms of GM-CSF, molgramostim or sargramostim.

86 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 78 , wherein the composition comprises a dose of between 500 milligram and 12 gram of fosfomycin.

87 . The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 77 , wherein the composition is formulated for intraperitoneal administration.
