Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a pre-5 th -Generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates Beyond 4 th -Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). Embodiments herein provide a method for triggering a transmission of a UE-to-Network relay indication comprising receiving, by UE, one of UE-to-Network relay criteria broadcasted by a base station, measuring, at the UE, a link quality parameter between the UE and the base station, detecting, by the UE, that the link quality parameter meets the UE-to-Network relay criteria, and transmitting, by the UE, the UE-to-Network relay indication (i.e. discovery message indicating itself as the UE-to-Network relay) on a Device to Device (D2D) discovery channel.

Claims (46)

1. A method for controlling a user equipment (UE)-to-network relay, by a UE, the method comprising:

receiving, from a base station, at least one relay criterion on associated with a link quality between the UE and the base station;

measuring a link quality between the UE and the base station;

determining whether the measured link quality meets the at least one relay criterion; and

transmitting a discovery message indicating a device to device (D2D) discovery associated with the UE-to-network relay, if the measured link quality between the UE and the base station is below a first threshold of the at least one relay criterion and the measured link quality between the UE and the base station above a second threshold of the at least one relay criterion.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first threshold is associated with a maximum link quality threshold and a maximum hysteresis value,

wherein the second threshold is associated with a minimum link quality threshold and a minimum hysteresis value.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measured link quality is associated with at least one of a reference signal received power (RSRP) or a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

if the measured link quality is below a maximum link quality threshold by maximum hysteresis value and above a minimum link quality threshold by minimum hysteresis value, transmitting the discovery message indicating the D2D discovery associated with the UE-to-network relay on a D2D discovery channel.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

if the measured link quality is above the first threshold or is below the second threshold, stopping the transmitting.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

if the UE in an idle state, and information transmitted by the base station including information indicating that the UE-to-network relay is supported, link quality thresholds, and transmission resource pools, and the at least one relay criterion is met, informing to a upper layer, that the upper layer configured with radio resources being used for transmitting the discovery message.

7. A method for controlling a user equipment (UE)-to-network relay, by a base station, the method comprising:

transmitting to a UE, information including at least one relay criterion, the at least one relay criterion being used for determination associated with a UE-to-network relay indication;

wherein the at least one relay criterion indicates transmission of a discovery message, if a measured link quality between the UE and the base station is below a first threshold and the measured link quality between the UE and the base station above a second threshold, the discovery message indicating a device to device, D2D, discovery associated with the UE-to-network relay.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the first threshold is associated with a maximum link quality threshold and a maximum hysteresis value,

wherein the second threshold is associated with a minimum link quality threshold and a minimum hysteresis value.

9. The method of claim 7 , the method further comprising:

transmitting to the UE, information including at least one of information indicating that the UE-to-network relay is supported, link quality thresholds, and transmission resource pools.

10. A user equipment (UE) for controlling a user equipment (UE)-to-network relay, the UE comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive a signal; and

a processor coupled with the transceiver, wherein the processor is configured to:

receive, from a base station, at least one relay criterion on associated with a link quality between the UE and the base station;

measure a link quality between the UE and the base station;

determine whether the measured link quality meets the at least one relay criterion; and

transmit, a discovery message indicating a device to device (D2D) discovery associated with the UE-to-network relay, if the measured link quality between the UE and the base station is below a first threshold of the at least one relay criterion and the measured link quality between the UE and the base station above a second threshold of the at least one relay criterion.

11. The UE of claim 10 , wherein the first threshold is associated with a maximum link quality threshold and a maximum hysteresis value,

wherein the second threshold is associated with a minimum link quality threshold and a minimum hysteresis value.

12. The UE of claim 10 , wherein the measured link quality is associated with at least one of a reference signal received power (RSRP) or a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

13. The UE of claim 10 , wherein the processor configured to:

if the measured link quality is below a maximum link quality threshold by maximum hysteresis value and above a minimum link quality threshold by minimum hysteresis value, transmitting the discovery message indicating the D2D discovery associated with the UE-to-network relay on a D2D discovery channel.
