Abstract

Methods of treating cancer related conditions using anamorelin are described.

Claims (26)

1. A method of treating weight loss in a human cancer patient suffering from weight loss and having a body mass index less than 20 kg/m 2 comprising administering to said patient 100 mg of anamorelin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof once daily for a therapeutically effective period of time.

2. A method of treating early satiety in a human cancer patient suffering from early satiety and having a body mass index less than 20 kg/m 2 comprising administering to said patient 100 mg of anamorelin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof once daily for a therapeutically effective period of time.

3. A method of improving quality of life as measured by FAACT in the anorexia/cachexia domain in a human cancer patient suffering a reduced quality of life as measured by FAACT in the anorexia/cachexia domain, comprising administering to said patient 100 mg of anamorelin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof once daily for a therapeutically effective period of time.

A method of increasing total body mass, lean body mass, and fat mass in a human cancer patient suffering from a loss of total body mass, lean body mass, and fat mass and having a body mass index less than 20 kg/m 2 , comprising administering to said patient 100 mg of anamorelin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof once daily for a therapeutically effective period of time.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said patient has a body weight loss greater than 2% in the previous 6 months.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount of anamorelin comprises 100 mg of anamorelin HCl based on the weight of the salt administered orally once daily at least one hour before the first meal.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said therapeutically effective period of time is twelve weeks.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further treats early satiety.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further improves quality of life as measured by FAACT in the anorexia/cachexia domain.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein said method increases total body mass, lean body mass and fat mass in said patient.

11. The method of claim 2 , wherein said patient has a body weight loss greater than 2% in the previous 6 months.

12. The method of claim 2 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount of anamorelin comprises 100 mg of anamorelin HCl based on the weight of the salt administered orally once daily at least one hour before the first meal.

13. The method of claim 2 , wherein said therapeutically effective period of time is twelve weeks.

14. The method of claim 2 , wherein the method further improves quality of life as measured by FAACT in the anorexia/cachexia domain.

15. The method of claim 2 , wherein said method increases total body mass, lean body mass and fat mass in said patient.

16. The method of claim 3 , wherein said patient has a BMI less than 20 kg/m 2 .

17. The method of claim 3 , wherein said patient has a BMI less than 20 kg/m 2 and a body weight loss greater than 2% in the previous 6 months.

18. The method of claim 3 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount of anamorelin comprises 100 mg of anamorelin HCl based on the weight of the salt administered orally once daily at least one hour before the first meal.

19. The method of claim 3 , wherein said therapeutically effective period of time is twelve weeks.

20. The method of claim 3 , wherein the method further treats early satiety.

21. The method of claim 3 , wherein said method increases total body mass, lean body mass and fat mass in said patient.

22. The method of claim 4 , wherein said patient has a body weight loss greater than 2% in the previous 6 months.

23. The method of claim 4 , wherein said therapeutically effective amount of anamorelin comprises 100 mg of anamorelin HCl based on the weight of the salt administered orally once daily at least one hour before the first meal.

24. The method of claim 4 , wherein said therapeutically effective period of time is twelve weeks.

25. The method of claim 4 , wherein the method further treats early satiety.

26. The method of claim 4 , wherein the method further improves quality of life as measured by FAACT in the anorexia/cachexia domain.
