Functionalised benzopyran compounds and use thereof
Benzopyran compounds, the preparation thereof, and their use in methods for treating cancer and reducing the incidence or risk of cancer recurrence. The cancer can be one or more of pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, prostate cancer, brain cancer (including paediatric and adult), ovarian cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, uterine cancer, neuroblastoma, mesothelioma, malignant ascites or peritoneal cancer.
1. A compound of the general formula (I)
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of: H and C 1 -C 6 alkyl,
R 2 is selected from the group consisting of: OH and C 1 -C 6 alkoxy,
R 3 is selected from the group consisting of: H, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, and halo,
R 10 to R 12 are independently selected from the group consisting of: OH, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy, and halo,
R 13 and one of R 14 and R 15 form the following structure:
and
the other one of R 14 and R 15 is selected from the group consisting of: H, OH, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, and halo.
2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound of formula (I) according to claim 1 and further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluent or excipient.
3. A method for treatment of cancer in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administration to the subject of a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of formula (I) according to claim 1 .
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the cancer is a cancer that has recurred.
5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the cancer is resistant to one or more chemotherapeutic agents.

The method of claim 3 , wherein the cancer is selected from the group consisting of: pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, prostate cancer, brain cancer (including paediatric and adult), ovarian cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, uterine cancer, neuroblastoma, mesothelioma, malignant ascites and peritoneal cancer.
7. A method for reducing incidences of, or risk of, cancer recurrence in a subject deemed to be at risk of cancer recurrence, the method comprising administration to the subject of an effective amount of the compound of formula (I) according to claim 1 .
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the subject deemed to be at risk of cancer recurrence is a subject who is in cancer remission.
