Abstract

A computer access control system includes a client electronic device configured to administer an alertness test to a user. A computer access controller is coupled to and configured to be actuated by the client electronic device.

Claims (34)

1. A computer access control system comprising:

a client electronic device configured to administer an alertness test to a user on a graphical user interface of the client electronic device to determine a result for the user, wherein the client electronic device is configured to render a plurality of objects and a disrupter configured to distract the user on the graphical user interface for use within the alertness test being administered to the user and solicit a response from the user concerning whether at least a pair of objects of the plurality of objects within the alertness test are identical to one another, wherein the disrupter is configured to rotate over the plurality of objects and, while rotating, temporarily obscure at least a portion of one or more objects of the plurality of objects rendered on the graphical user interface during the alertness test; and

a computer access controller, coupled to and configured to be actuated by the client electronic device, wherein the computer access controller is configured to provide the user with access to a restricted computing system based upon, at least in part, the result for the user.

2. The computer access control system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of objects includes at least one rotating object.

3. The computer access control system of claim 1 wherein the client electronic device is further configured to:

receive the response from the user.

4. The computer access control system of claim 3 wherein the client electronic device is further configured to:

determine the result for the user based, at least in part, upon the response received from the user.

5. The computer access control system of claim 1 wherein the disrupter is configured to introduce a delay between the rendering of the plurality of objects.

6. The computer access control system of claim 1 wherein the disrupter includes one or more of:

a visual disrupter;

an audible disrupter; and

a physical disrupter.

7. A computer access control system comprising:

a client electronic device configured to administer an alertness test to a user, wherein the client electronic device is configured to:

render a plurality of objects and a disrupter configured to distract the user for use within the alertness test being administered to the user on a graphical user interface of the client electronic device to determine a result for the user, wherein the disrupter is configured to rotate over the plurality of objects and, while rotating, temporarily obscure at least a portion of one or more objects of the plurality of objects rendered on the graphical user interface during the alertness test,

solicit a response from the user concerning whether at least a pair of objects of the plurality of objects within the alertness test are identical to one another, and

receive the response from the user; and

a computer access controller, coupled to and configured to be actuated by the client electronic device, wherein the computer access controller is configured to provide the user with access to a restricted computing system based upon, at least in part, the result for the user.

8. The computer access control system of claim 7 wherein the plurality of objects includes at least one rotating object.

9. The computer access control system of claim 7 wherein the client electronic device is further configured to:

determine the result for the user based, at least in part, upon the response received from the user.

10. The computer access control system of claim 7 wherein the disrupter is configured to introduce a delay between the rendering of the plurality of objects.

11. The computer access control system of claim 7 wherein the disrupter includes one or more of:

a visual disrupter;

an audible disrupter; and

a physical disrupter.

12. A computer access control system comprising:

a client electronic device configured to administer an alertness test to a user, wherein the client electronic device is configured to:

render a plurality of objects and a disrupter configured to distract the user for use within the alertness test being administered to the user on a graphical user interface of the client electronic device, wherein the plurality of objects includes at least one rotating object, wherein the disrupter is configured to rotate over the plurality of objects and, while rotating, temporarily obscure at least a portion of one or more objects of the plurality of objects rendered on the graphical user interface during the alertness test,

solicit a response from the user concerning whether at least a pair of objects of the plurality of objects within the alertness test match are identical to one another,

receive the response from the user, and

determine a result for the user based, at least in part, upon the response received from the user; and

a computer access controller, coupled to and configured to be actuated by the client electronic device, wherein the computer access controller is configured to provide the user with access to a restricted computing system based upon, at least in part, the result for the user.
