Abstract

A particle beam device including a magnet, the device including: a particle beam source configured to emit electron and ion beams; a plurality of yokes arranged in a substantially rectangular shape; a coil set including a plurality of coils, wherein windings of the plurality of coils are uniformly distributed across and wound around the plurality of yokes, wherein the coil set is configured to produce both dipole and quadrupole fields, wherein the magnet is configured to deflect and focus electron and ion beams.

Claims (35)

1. A particle beam device including a magnet, the device comprising:

a particle beam source configured to emit electron and ion beams;

a plurality of yokes arranged in a substantially rectangular shape;

a coil set including a plurality of coils,

wherein windings of the plurality of coils are uniformly distributed across and wound around the plurality of yokes,

wherein the coil set is configured to produce both dipole and quadrupole fields,

wherein the magnet is configured to deflect and focus electron and ion beams.

2. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein the magnet includes an inlet opening that is substantially rectangular in shape.

3. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein an exit contour of the plurality of yoke at an outlet opening is arcuate in shape to provide a quadrupole focusing field.

4. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein the substantially rectangular shape of the plurality of yokes includes octagonal corners.

5. The particle beam device of claim 4 , wherein the octagonal corners are positioned at 45-degrees in angle.

6. The particle beam device of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of coils positioned at the octagonal corners is configured as quadrupole type B coils.

7. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of yokes arranged in the substantially rectangular shape is configured into two halves clamped together at two joints.

8. The particle beam device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of coils includes:

a first type of coils arranged parallel to a first axis; and

a second type of coils arranged parallel to a second axis that is substantially perpendicular to the first axis.

9. The particle beam device of claim 8 , wherein the windings of the first type of coils along the first axis and the windings of the second type of coils along the second axis are wound around the substantially rectangular shape of the plurality of yokes.

10. The particle beam device of claim 8 , wherein the first type of coils is connected electrically as a single coil.

11. The particle beam device of claim 10 , wherein the first type of coils is mechanically on separate halves of the two halves of the plurality of yokes.

12. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein the magnet is horn shaped in a beam direction.

13. The particle beam device of claim 1 , wherein the magnet includes an outlet opening having an arcuate shape contour.

14. A magnet comprising:

a plurality of yokes arranged in a substantially rectangular shape;

a coil set including a plurality of coils,

wherein windings of the plurality of coils are uniformly distributed across and wound around the plurality of yokes,

wherein the coil set is configured to produce both dipole and quadrupole fields.

15. The magnet of claim 14 , wherein the substantially rectangular shape of the plurality of yokes includes octagonal corners.

16. The magnet of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of coils positioned at the octagonal corners is configured as quadrupole type B coils.

17. The magnet of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of yokes arranged in the substantially rectangular shape is configured into two halves clamped together at two joints.

18. The magnet of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of coils includes:

a first type of coils arranged parallel to a first axis; and

a second type of coils arranged parallel to a second axis that is substantially perpendicular to the first axis.

19. The magnet of claim 18 , wherein the windings of the first type of coils along the first axis and the windings of the second type of coils along the second axis are wound around the substantially rectangular shape of the plurality of yokes.

20. The magnet of claim 18 , wherein the first type of coils is connected electrically as a single coil.

21. The magnet of claim 20 , wherein the first type of coils is mechanically on separate halves of the two halves of the plurality of yokes.
