Abstract

A liquid treatment device includes a base with a power source, a UV-LED module for providing UV-B or UV-C light to liquid, an LED for providing visible light, and a processor for selectively powering the UV-LED module and the LED, and having a UV transmissive material above the UV-LED module for allowing the UV-B or UV-C band light from the UV-LED module to be transmitted from the base housing, and a liquid storage housing removably coupled to the base housing with a storage portion configured to hold liquid and having a bottom portion comprising a UV transmissive material for allowing the UV-B or UV-C band light from the UV-LED module to be transmitted into the liquid, and an output coupled for restricting outflow of the liquid from the storage portion.

Claims (50)

1. A liquid treatment device comprises:

a housing comprising:

a power source;

a UV-LED module electrically coupled to the power source, wherein the UV-LED module is configured to provide UV-B or UV-C band light to liquid;

an LEDs electrically coupled to the power source, wherein the LED is configured to provide visible light;

a processor electrically coupled to the power source, the UV-LED module, and to the plurality of LEDs, wherein the processor is configured to specify parameters for power from the power source to the UV-LED module to the power source, and wherein the processor is configured to specify parameters for power from the power source to the LED; and

wherein the base housing comprises a UV transmissive material disposed on a portion of the base housing adjacent to the UV-LED module, wherein the UV transmissive material is configured to allow the UV-B or UV-C band light from the UV-LED module to be transmitted outward from the base housing;

a liquid storage housing removably couplable to the portion of the base housing comprising:

a liquid storage portion configured to hold liquid, the liquid storage portion having a portion comprising a UV transmissive material, wherein the UV transmissive material is configured to allow the UV-B or UV-C band light from the UV-LED module to be transmitted into the liquid; and

a user output portion coupled to the liquid storage portion, wherein the user output portion is configured to restrict outflow of the liquid from the liquid storage portion.

2. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the user output portion is selected from a group consisting of: a lid, a screw-on cap, a flip-top cap, a flap, a nipple.

3. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the base housing also comprises a communication module coupled to the power source and to the processor, wherein the communication module is configured to provide usage data to a remote device.

4. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the base housing further comprises a pressure sensor coupled to the power source and to the processor, wherein the pressure sensor is configured to determine weight of the liquid storage housing upon the base housing.

5. The liquid treatment device of claim 3 wherein the usage data is selected from a group consisting: number of UV sterilization times, and an approximate amount of liquid consumed.

6. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the liquid is selected from a group consisting of: Mother's milk, cow milk, juice.

7. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the liquid storage portion comprises a plastic bottle.

8. The liquid treatment device of claim 1

wherein and the liquid storage housing is configured as a baby bottle; and

wherein the base housing comprise a cradle adapted to interface to the baby bottle.

9. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the liquid storage housing further comprises a mechanical agitator.

10. The liquid treatment device of claim 1 wherein the housing can be disposed on top of the liquid storage housing or below the liquid storage portion.

11. A method for treating milk comprises:

filling a milk container with milk, wherein the milk container includes a portion comprising a UV transmissive material, wherein the UV transmissive material is configured to allow UV-B or UV-C band light to be transmitted there through;

agitating the milk in the milk container;

coupling the milk container to a UV housing, wherein the UV housing comprises a UV-LEDs module configured to provide the UV-B or UV-C band light, wherein the UV-LED module is disposed adjacent to the UV transmissive material of the milk container; and

causing the UV housing to provide operating power to the UV-LED module to thereby provide the UV-B or UV-C band light to the milk in the milk container.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

providing the milk to the user via a user output portion of the milk container, wherein the user output portion is configured to restrict outflow of the milk from the milk container; and

wherein the user output portion is selected from a group consisting of: a nipple, a straw, and a spout.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising:

determining with a pressure sensor in the UV housing, a first weight for the milk container, prior to providing the milk to the user;

determining with the pressure sensor in the UV housing, a second weight for the milk container, after providing the milk to the user;

determining with the processor in the UV housing, an approximate consumption amount for the milk.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising:

transmitting the approximate consumption amount to a remote device;

wherein the remote device is selected from a group consisting of: a smart device, a remote server.

15. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

transmitting indication that the UV-B or UV-C band light has been provided to the milk in the milk container to a remote device;

wherein the remote device is selected from a group consisting of: a smart device, a remote server.

16. The method of claim 11 wherein the agitating the milk comprises a user manually agitating the milk container.

17. The method of claim 11

wherein the agitating the milk comprises activating an agitator in the milk container; and

wherein the agitator is selected from a group consisting of: a stirring mechanism and a bubbler mechanism.

18. The method of claim 11 further comprising periodically using the processor in the UV housing to provide operating power to the UV-LED module to thereby provide the UV-B or UV-C band light to the milk in the milk container.
