Abstract

An annuloplasty ring holder including a head having an upper surface and an annuloplasty ring receiving surface facing opposite the upper surface. The annuloplasty ring holder also includes means for attaching an annuloplasty ring to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface. The means for attaching an annuloplasty ring to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface may include one or more suture guides operatively associated with the head and configured to position one or more sutures to removably associate an annuloplasty ring with the annuloplasty ring receiving surface. The head may include a central hub and more than one spoke radiating out from the central hub. If the head is thus configured, each spoke will include a portion of the annuloplasty ring receiving surface.

Claims (26)

1. A method of attaching an annuloplasty ring to an annuloplasty ring holder comprising:

providing an annuloplasty ring holder having an upper surface and an annuloplasty ring receiving surface facing opposite the upper surface;

attaching an annuloplasty ring to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface with at least one suture such that the annuloplasty ring may be released from the annuloplasty ring holder by severing once a single suture of the at least one suture.

2. The method of attaching an annuloplasty ring to an annuloplasty ring holder of claim 1 further comprising attaching the at least one suture to the annuloplasty ring holder.

3. The method of attaching an annuloplasty ring to an annuloplasty ring holder of claim 1 further comprising attaching the annuloplasty ring to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface with a continuous single length of suture.

4. An annuloplasty ring and holder comprising:

an annuloplasty ring holder having an upper surface and an annuloplasty ring receiving surface facing opposite the upper surface;

an annuloplasty ring; and

at least one suture associating the annuloplasty ring with the annuloplasty ring receiving surface such that the annuloplasty ring holder may be disassociated from the annuloplasty ring by severing once a single suture of the at least one suture.

5. The annuloplasty ring and holder of claim 4 further comprising a single continuous length of suture associating the annuloplasty ring with the annuloplasty ring receiving surface.

6. A method of releasing an annuloplasty ring from an annuloplasty ring holder comprising:

providing an annuloplasty ring holder having an upper surface and an annuloplasty ring receiving surface facing opposite the upper surface;

providing an annuloplasty ring removably attached to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface with at least one suture;

severing a single suture of the at least one suture once to release the annuloplasty ring from the annuloplasty ring receiving surface; and

disassociating the annuloplasty ring holder from the annuloplasty ring.

7. The method of releasing an annuloplasty ring from an annuloplasty ring holder of claim 6 further comprising simultaneously withdrawing the annuloplasty ring holder and the severed suture from the annuloplasty ring.

8. The method of releasing an annuloplasty ring from an annuloplasty ring holder of claim 6 wherein more than one suture is attached to the annuloplasty ring holder before the step of severing only one suture and all sutures remain attached to the annuloplasty ring holder after disassociating the annuloplasty ring holder from the annuloplasty ring.

9. The method of releasing an annuloplasty ring from an annuloplasty ring holder of claim 6 wherein the annuloplasty ring is removably attached to the annuloplasty ring receiving surface with a continuous single length of suture.

10. An annuloplasty ring and holder comprising:

an annuloplasty ring holder having a ring receiving surface;

an annuloplasty ring having a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface; and

at least one suture associating the annuloplasty ring with the annuloplasty ring receiving surface such that the top surface of the annuloplasty ring contacts the annuloplasty ring receiving surface and no portion of the annuloplasty ring holder contacts any portion of the bottom surface of the annuloplasty ring, wherein the annuloplasty ring holder may be disassociated from the annuloplasty ring by severing once a single suture of the at least one suture.

11. The annuloplasty ring and holder of claim 10 , wherein the at least one suture comprises a plurality of sutures.

12. The annuloplasty ring and holder of claim 11 , wherein one of the plurality of sutures comprises a continuous single length suture that wraps around at least a portion of an outer circumference of the annuloplasty ring.

13. The annuloplasty ring and holder of claim 10 , further comprising a handle removably connected to the annuloplasty ring holder.

14. The annuloplasty ring and holder of claim 13 , wherein the handle includes a bendable stem.
