Abstract

A starting location for the mini-game is chosen in the legacy game state. A snapshot is generated of that location. Once the snapshot is taken, trigger events are identified. Triggers corresponding to the trigger events are identified. A mini-game script is generated using the snapshot and triggers. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.

Claims (27)

1. A non-transitory computer readable medium containing program instructions for implementing a mini-game, wherein execution of the program instructions by one or more processors of a computer system causes the one or more processors to carry out a method, the method comprising:

a. sending one or more load instructions from a client device to a remote computer for executing an emulator to load a snapshot from a legacy game, the snapshot being associated with an execution state, and the snapshot is associated with data representing a starting location of the mini-game, and the snapshot is further associated with saved data corresponding to the execution state of the legacy game that the emulator can use to start execution of the mini-game;

b. monitoring emulated data produced by the emulator during execution of the mini-game for one or more pre-determined events with the client device;

c. detecting a pre-determined trigger in the emulated data with the client device, wherein the pre-determined trigger corresponds to a particular pre-determined event; and

d. delivering one or more instructions to the emulator when the pre-determined trigger is detected.

2. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the snapshot is associated to any location in a legacy game execution state.

3. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the event corresponds to a mini-game-ending trigger.

4. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the mini-game-ending trigger is the game timing out.

5. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the mini-game-ending trigger is an adversary being neutralized.

6. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the mini-game-ending trigger is a protagonist being neutralized.

7. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 3 , wherein the mini-game-ending trigger is a certain score being achieved.

8. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the event corresponds to a non-mini-game-ending trigger.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the non-mini-game-ending trigger is a certain score being achieved.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the non-mini-game-ending trigger is a character reaching a certain level in the game.

11. A method for implementing a mini-game, comprising:

a. sending one or more load instructions from a client device to a remote emulator instructing the emulator to load a snapshot associated with a legacy game, the snapshot being associated with an execution state, wherein the snapshot includes data representing a starting location of the mini-game that is a location in the legacy game, wherein the snapshot is further associated with saved data corresponding to the execution state of the legacy game that the emulator uses to enable start gameplay of the mini-game for the snapshot;

b. monitoring emulated data produced by the emulator for one or more events with the client device;

c. detecting a trigger in the emulated data with the client device, wherein the trigger corresponds to one of said events; and

d. delivering one or more instructions to the emulator when the trigger is detected.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the event corresponds to a mini-game-ending trigger, or a game time out, or a score being achieved, or a level being achieved.

13. A method for enabling play of a mini-game generated from a game, comprising:

sending one or more instructions from a client device to a remote server to load, by an emulator, a snapshot associated with the game to play the mini-game, the mini-game is produced from a portion of the game and the portion of the game is defined by the snapshot,

wherein the snapshot is associated with an execution state and data representing a starting location of the mini-game, the start location is a point in the game used to generate the mini-game, wherein the snapshot is further associated with at least some saved data corresponding to when the game was executed by the emulator, the start location being used to enable play of the mini-game;

monitoring emulated data produced by the emulator for one or more events when the mini-game is played;

detecting a trigger in the emulated data, wherein the trigger corresponds to one of said events; and

delivering one or more instructions to the emulator when the trigger is detected.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the event corresponds to a mini-game-ending trigger, or a game time out, or a score being achieved, or a level being achieved.
