Abstract

A display device with a touch sensor having a display function and a touch sensor function is provided. The display device includes a first substrate including a pixel electrode; a first electrode along a first direction; and a second substrate including a second electrode that includes patterns of electrodes along a second direction crossing the first direction and that faces the first electrode and the pixel electrode, wherein upon the display function being activated, the pixel electrode is supplied with a pixel signal, and the second electrode is supplied with common voltage, and upon the touch sensor function being activated, the first electrode is applied with a first signal and the second electrode is configured to receive the first signal to be a second signal as a touch detecting signal.

Claims (29)

1. A display device with a touch sensor having a display function and a touch sensor function, the display device comprising:

a first substrate including a pixel electrode;

a first electrode facing the pixel electrode;

a second substrate;

a second electrode that is included in the second substrate and that faces the first electrode and the pixel electrode; and

a liquid crystal layer that is sandwiched between the pixel electrode and the second electrode and in which an orientation of liquid crystal is controlled according to a vertical electric field between the pixel electrode and the second electrode,

wherein

the second electrode is divided into patterns that include:

a first pattern part used for touch detection; and

a second pattern part that is a floating pattern used for load reduction.

2. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 1 , wherein

the pixel electrode is provided between the first electrode and the liquid crystal layer, and

a holding capacitor is formed between the pixel electrode and the first electrode.

3. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 1 , wherein an electrostatic capacitance for touch detection is formed between the first electrode and the second electrode.

4. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 1 , wherein

the first electrode has

a first width where the first electrode crosses the first pattern part of the second electrode and

a second width where the first electrode crosses the second pattern part of the second electrode, and

the first width is narrower than the second width.

5. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 1 , wherein

the first substrate includes a source line that is connected to the pixel electrode, and

the first pattern is arranged to overlap the source line.

6. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 5 , wherein

the first substrate includes a gate line that is crossing the source line, and

the first electrode is provided along the gate line and crossing the source line.

7. The display device with a touch sensor according to claim 1 ,

wherein, in a touch detection period,

the first pattern part is used for touch detection, and

the second pattern part is in a floating state.
