Abstract

In a riding mower having a frame, a mower deck supported beneath the frame, a chair on said frame and a source of motive power also supported on said frame and including two hydraulic transaxles depending beneath the frame to each selectively rotate a drive wheel. The frame is supported on forward and rear wheel assemblies with a supporting wheel. The transaxles are supported beneath the frame and pivotally secured thereto by a flange captivating vibration pillows and proximate the driven wheel and an inner pivot rod secured to the frame by apertures in downwardly depending tabs.

Claims (33)

1. A riding mower having a frame with a mower deck supported beneath the frame and a chair supported by the frame and a source of motive power also supported by the frame, the riding mower further comprising:

a pair of forward wheels spaced apart from a pair of rear driven wheels, all of the wheels connected to support the frame; and

two integrated hydraulic transaxles mounted to the frame, wherein each integrated hydraulic transaxle is configured to selectively rotate a respective rear driven wheel of the pair of rear driven wheels and is pivotally secured to the frame so that the integrated hydraulic transaxle is configured to pivot in conjunction with the respective rear driven wheel about a respective pivot axis.

2. The mower as described in claim 1 wherein each integrated hydraulic transaxle is secured to the frame by a rod which permits the integrated hydraulic transaxle to pivot upwardly or downwardly in conjunction with upward or downward movement of the respective rear driven wheel.

3. The mower as described in claim 2 wherein each rod spans between spaced apart downwardly depending tabs secured to the frame.

4. The riding mower of claim 1 , wherein each integrated hydraulic transaxle comprises a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor.

5. The riding mower of claim 4 , wherein the pivot axes are parallel to a longitudinal axis of the riding mower.

The riding mower of claim 4 , wherein the respective rear driven wheel of each of the integrated hydraulic transaxles is configured to rotate about a respective rotational axis, and wherein the pivot axis of each of the integrated hydraulic transaxles is transverse to the rotational axis of the respective rear driven wheel of the integrated hydraulic transaxle.

7. The riding mower of claim 1 , wherein the pivot axes are parallel to a longitudinal axis of the riding mower.

The riding mower of claim 1 , wherein the respective rear driven wheel of each of the integrated hydraulic transaxles is configured to rotate about a respective rotational axis, and wherein the pivot axis of each of the integrated hydraulic transaxles is transverse to the rotational axis of the respective rear driven wheel of the integrated hydraulic transaxle.

9. The riding mower of claim 1 , wherein the riding mower further comprises resilient members configured to be compressed by pivoting of the integrated hydraulic transaxles about the respective pivot axes.

10. A riding mower having a frame and a mower deck, a chair, and source of motive power supported by the frame, the riding mower further comprising a rear drive system comprising:

a pair of integrated hydraulic transaxles comprising:

a right integrated hydraulic transaxle pivotally coupled to the frame and configured to rotate a right rear drive wheel, the right integrated hydraulic transaxle configured to pivot with the right rear drive wheel about a right pivot axis; and

a left integrated hydraulic transaxle pivotally coupled to the frame and configured to rotate a left rear drive wheel, the left integrated hydraulic transaxle configured to pivot with the left rear drive wheel about a left pivot axis.

11. The riding mower of claim 10 ,

wherein the right integrated hydraulic transaxle comprises a right hydraulic pump and a right hydraulic motor, and

wherein the left integrated hydraulic transaxle comprises a left hydraulic pump and a left hydraulic motor.

12. The riding mower of claim 11 ,

wherein the right pivot axis is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the riding mower, and

wherein the left pivot axis is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the riding mower.

13. The riding mower of claim 11 ,

wherein the right rear drive wheel is configured to rotate about a right rotational axis that is transverse to the right pivot axis, and

wherein the left rear drive wheel is configured to rotate about a left rotational axis that is transverse to the left pivot axis.

14. The riding mower of claim 10 ,

wherein the right pivot axis is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the riding mower, and

wherein the left pivot axis is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the riding mower.

15. The riding mower of claim 10 ,

wherein the right rear drive wheel is configured to rotate about a right rotational axis that is transverse to the right pivot axis, and

wherein the left rear drive wheel is configured to rotate about a left rotational axis that is transverse to the left pivot axis.

16. The riding mower of claim 10 , further comprising:

a right resilient member configured to be compressed by pivoting of the right integrated hydraulic transaxles about the right pivot axis; and

a left resilient member configured to be compressed by pivoting of the left integrated hydraulic transaxles about the left pivot axis.
