Transferring awards via optical machine readable data representation images
Club cards and tickets can be eliminated by providing an application that allows a player's mobile phone to process an image of an optical machine-readable representation of data. At the end of a wagering session on a WGM, the WGM can display a barcode representing a player's winnings, an achievement, game status, etc. The player takes a picture of the barcode with his or her mobile phone. The application on the phone processes the barcode image and automatically updates an account of the player in accordance with the data represented or carried by the barcode. For instance, the mobile phone sends a request to a wagering account server to electronically deposit the winnings, as represented by the barcode, in a wagering account associated with the player's club profile.
1. A method comprising:
displaying a code image on one of a gaming machine or a mobile device;
capturing the code image by the other of the gaming machine or the mobile device;
in response to capturing the code image, receiving a request from the mobile device to transfer funds between the gaming machine and a remote wagering account;
transferring the funds between the gaming machine and the wagering account; and
establishing a credit balance at the gaming machine, the credit balance funding wagers to play a wagering game at the gaming machine independent of the mobile device.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request is a cashout request, and wherein the transferring includes cashing out the funds from the credit balance and transferring the funds from the gaming machine to the wagering account.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the transferring includes receiving, at an account server managing the wagering account, a request from the mobile device to deposit the funds in the wagering account.
4. The method of claim 3 , further including sending a confirmation to the mobile device that the funds were transferred to the wagering account.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request is a request to establish the credit balance, and wherein the transferring includes establishing the credit balance and transferring the funds from the wagering account to the gaming machine.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the transferring includes receiving, at an account server managing the wagering account, a request from the mobile device to debit the funds from the wagering account.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the code image is associated with one of the credit balance or a particular amount for wagering.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wagering account is associated with a digital wallet.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the code image comprises one of a barcode, a matrix code, or a graphical image.
10. The method of claim 1 wherein the code image is captured by a digital camera.
11. A method comprising:
displaying a code image on one of a gaming machine or a mobile device;
capturing the code image by the other of the gaming machine or the mobile device;
in response to the code image being captured by the other of the gaming machine or the mobile device, sending a request from the mobile device to transfer funds between a gaming machine and a remote wagering account;
transferring the funds between the gaming machine and the wagering account; and
establishing a credit balance at the gaming machine, the credit balance funding wagers to play a wagering game at the gaming machine independent of the mobile device.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the request is a cashout request, and wherein the transferring includes cashing out the funds from the credit balance and transferring the funds from the gaming machine to the wagering account.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the transferring includes sending a request from the mobile device to an account server managing the wagering account, to deposit the funds in the wagering account.
14. The method of claim 13 , further including receiving a confirmation at the mobile device that the funds were transferred to the wagering account.
15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the request is a request to establish the credit balance, and wherein the transferring includes establishing the credit balance and transferring the funds from the wagering account to the gaming machine.
16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the transferring includes sending a request from the mobile device to an account server managing the wagering account, to debit the funds from the wagering account.
17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the code image is associated with one of the credit balance or a particular amount for wagering.
18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wagering account is associated with a digital wallet.
19. The method of claim 11 , wherein the code image comprises one of a barcode, a matrix code, or a graphical image.
20. The method of claim 11 wherein the code image is captured by a digital camera.
