Abstract

Everting balloon systems and methods for using the same are disclosed herein. The systems can be configured to access and dilate body lumen and cavities. For example, the systems can be used to dilate the cervix and access the uterine cavity. The systems can also be used to occlude the cervix. The systems can also be used to occlude the urethra.

Claims (24)

1. A method for accessing a cervical canal adjacent to a uterine cavity comprising:

inflating a first balloon attached at a first end to a first catheter;

translating a second catheter radially inside in the first catheter, wherein the first balloon is attached at a second end to the second catheter;

inflating a second balloon within the first balloon; and

dilating the cervical canal when inflating the second balloon;

wherein the first balloon comprises an everting balloon and the second balloon comprises a dilating balloon; and

further comprising tearing the everting balloon, wherein the tearing comprises inflating the dilating balloon when dilating the cervical canal adjacent to the uterine cavity.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising tearing the first balloon, wherein the tearing comprises the inflating of the second balloon within the first balloon.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dilating comprises dilating the cervical canal adjacent to the uterine cavity.

4. A method for accessing a cervical canal comprising:

inflating a first balloon attached at a first end to a first catheter;

translating a second catheter radially inside in the first catheter, wherein the first balloon is attached at a second end to the second catheter;

everting the first balloon in the cervical canal;

inflating a second balloon within the first balloon;

dilating the cervical canal when inflating the second balloon; and

tearing the first balloon.

5. A method for accessing a cervical canal adjacent to a uterine cavity comprising:

inflating a first balloon attached at a first end to a first catheter;

translating a second catheter radially inside in the first catheter, wherein the first balloon is attached at a second end to the second catheter;

inflating a second balloon within the first balloon; and

dilating the cervical canal when inflating the second balloon;

wherein the first balloon comprises an everting balloon, and further comprising tearing the everting balloon with a mechanical instrument within the first catheter.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising tearing the first balloon, wherein the tearing comprises the inflating of the second balloon within the first balloon.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the dilating comprises dilating the cervical canal adjacent to the uterine cavity.
