Abstract

The present invention relates to a system, apparatus and method for facilitating the selection, purchasing and ordering glass products. The apparatus includes a processor which is controlled by software to facilitate a selection process which integrates the comparison of glass products and their properties, as well as, including particular properties of particular components of a glass product. The apparatus can work with a user input device and is programmed to display graphics associated with selections and potential selections for glass products. The system and method providing selection menus for display on a display device and an animation graphic associated with a selection presented to the user. The system, apparatus, and method integrates the glass product selection information, and makes selections for the user, based on the user's previous choices and specified target performances to present to the user potential glass products.

Claims (44)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, via a user input device, a user input of a characteristic property and a characteristic component for each layer of at least one glass layer;

receiving, via the user input device, a user input of desired performance properties of a glass product comprising the at least one glass layer;

determining, based at least in part on the characteristic property and the characteristic component, actual performance properties of the glass product comprising the at least one glass layer;

determining, via a processor, one or more glass products having the characteristic property and the characteristic component for each layer of the at least one glass layer;

comparing, via the processor, actual performance properties of the one or more glass products to the desired performance properties;

displaying, via a display screen, a list of glass products that satisfy the desired performance properties;

generating a glass specification responsive to a user selection of at least one selected glass product from the list of glass products; and

transmitting, the glass specification to a location for arriving at an order for a glass product that meets the glass specification.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, via the user input device, a user request to change the characteristic property to an updated characteristic property;

determining, via the processor, at least one glass product having the updated characteristic property; and

displaying, via the display screen, a list of glass products having the updated characteristic property.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying, via the display screen, a list of additional properties that are compatible with the characteristic property; and

receiving, via the user input device, a user selection of at least one additional property from the list of additional properties.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the selecting the at least one additional property is repeated until no further selections are provided.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising purchasing the selected glass product.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic property includes at least one of color and a performance characteristic.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user input device is a keyboard.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user input device is a mouse.

9. A system for purchasing a glass product, the system comprising:

a first computer;

a second computer operatively coupled to the first computer;

a glass-product database operatively coupled to the second computer, the glass-product database having glass product data stored thereon;

wherein the second computer is configured to:

receive, via a user input device, a user input of a characteristic property for each layer of at least one glass layer;

receive, via the user input device, a user input of a characteristic component of the at least one glass layer;

determine one or more glass products having the characteristic property and the characteristic component;

display, via a display screen, a list of glass products having the characteristic property and the characteristic component;

process a user selection of at least one selected glass product from the list of glass products to generate a glass specification; and

transmit the glass specification to a location for arriving at an order for a glass product that meets the glass specification.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the second computer is configured to:

receive, via the user input device, a user request to change the characteristic property to an updated characteristic property;

determine at least one glass product having the updated characteristic property; and

display, via the display screen, a list of glass products having the updated characteristic property.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the second computer is configured to:

display, via the display screen, a list of additional properties that are compatible with the characteristic property; and

receive, via the user input device, a user selection of at least one additional property from the list of additional properties.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the receipt of the user selection of the at least one additional property is repeated until no further selections are provided.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the second computer is configured to purchase the selected glass product.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the characteristic property includes at least one of color and a performance characteristic.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the user input device is a keyboard.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the user input device is a mouse.
