Abstract

A switch system configured to switch Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) client services includes interface circuitry configured to ingress and egress FlexE clients; and switch circuitry communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry and configured to switch portions of the FlexE clients utilizing a cell switch and Optical Transport Network (OTN) over Packet (OPF) techniques. A method of switching Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) client services includes ingressing and egressing FlexE clients via interface circuitry; interfacing the FlexE clients with switch circuitry communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry; and switching portions of the FlexE clients with the switch circuitry utilizing a cell switch and Optical Transport Network (OTN) over Packet (OPF) techniques.

Claims (35)

1. A switch system configured to switch Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) client services, the switch system comprising:

interface circuitry configured to ingress and egress FlexE clients from a FlexE shim; and

switch circuitry communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry and configured to switch portions of the FlexE clients utilizing a cell switch fabric,

wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients and transcode the 66 b blocks into 257 b blocks.

2. The switch system of claim 1 , wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are SARed (Segmentation and Reassembly) using Optical Transport Network (OTN) over Packet (OPF) techniques and switched as a stream across the cell switch fabric.

3. The switch system of claim 2 , wherein the OPF techniques accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots with packets sized by +/− one byte to a signal source rate with timing transfer.

4. The switch system of claim 2 , wherein the OPF techniques accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots with fixed sized packets with no timing transfer.

5. The switch system of claim 2 , wherein the cell switch fabric utilizes a phase aligned clock to deskew at an egress of the FlexE clients.

6. The switch system of claim 1 , wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are switched based on calendar slots in the FlexE clients.

7. The switch system of claim 1 , wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients,

create packets with a header, and

switch the packets.

8. A switch system configured to switch Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) client services, the switch system comprising:

interface circuitry configured to ingress and egress FlexE clients from a FlexE shim; and

switch circuitry communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry and configured to switch portions of the FlexE clients utilizing a cell switch fabric

wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are SARed (Segmentation and Reassembly) using Optical Transport Network (OTN) over Packet (OPF) techniques and switched as a stream across the cell switch fabric,

wherein the OPF techniques accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots with one of i) packets sized by +/− one byte to a signal source rate with timing transfer and ii) fixed sized packets with no timing transfer.

9. The switch system of claim 8 , wherein the cell switch fabric utilizes a phase aligned clock to deskew at an egress of the FlexE clients.

10. The switch system of claim 8 , wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are switched based on calendar slots in the FlexE clients.

11. The switch system of claim 8 , wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients,

create packets with a header, and

switch the packets.

12. The switch system of claim 8 , wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients and transcode the 66 b blocks into 257 b blocks.

13. A switch system configured to switch Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) client services, the switch system comprising:

interface circuitry configured to ingress and egress FlexE clients from a FlexE shim; and

switch circuitry communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry and configured to switch portions of the FlexE clients utilizing a cell switch fabric

wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are SARed (Segmentation and Reassembly) using Optical Transport Network (OTN) over Packet (OPF) techniques and switched as a stream across the cell switch fabric,

wherein the cell switch fabric utilizes a phase aligned clock to deskew at an egress of the FlexE clients.

14. The switch system of claim 13 , wherein the OPF techniques accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots with packets sized by +/− one byte to a signal source rate with timing transfer.

15. The switch system of claim 13 , wherein the OPF techniques accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots with fixed sized packets with no timing transfer.

16. The switch system of claim 13 , wherein the portions of the FlexE clients are switched based on calendar slots in the FlexE clients.

17. The switch system of claim 13 , wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients,

create packets with a header, and

switch the packets.

18. The switch system of claim 13 , wherein the switch circuitry is configured to accumulate 66 b blocks of one or more calendar slots from the FlexE clients and transcode the 66 b blocks into 257 b blocks.
