Abstract

Administration of an antibody that specifically binds IL-1α is useful for treating cachexia and increasing the lifespan of a subject suffering from cachexia.

Claims (3)

1. A method comprising the step of repeatedly administering to a human subject having a loss of mean body mass caused by a chronic disease an agent which targets interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α) at least until the subject's lean body mass is increased, wherein the agent which targets IL-1α is an anti-IL-1α antibody.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the monoclonal antibody is an IgG1.
