Abstract

A nonwoven fabric according to the present invention is formed so that constituent fibers of the nonwoven fabric have an average fiber diameter of less than 1 μm and the number of fibers having fiber diameters ranging from 2 times up to 10 times the average fiber diameter of the constituent fibers is in a range of 2 to 20% of a total number of the constituent fibers. When the nonwoven fabric according to the present invention is used as a filter layer constituting an air filter, for example, it is possible to achieve high collection efficiency while reducing clogging (packing) between fibers to solve problems that may occur in using the conventional nanofiber nonwoven fabric (such as an increase in pressure loss and a decrease in service life).

Claims (6)

1. An air filter comprising a nonwoven fabric,

wherein the nonwoven fabric is constituted by constituent fibers produced by irradiating a raw filament that is a thermoplastic resin with a laser, and by melting, vibrating, and drawing the raw filament, wherein the constituent fibers of the nonwoven fabric have an average fiber diameter of less than 1 μm and the number of fibers having fiber diameters ranging from 2 times up to 10 times an average fiber diameter of the constituent fibers is in a range of 2 to 20% of a total number of the constituent fibers.

2. The air filter according to claim 1 , wherein the constituent fibers of the nonwoven fabric have an average fiber diameter of less than 0.5 μm.

3. The air filter according to claim 1 , wherein the nonwoven fabric comprises:

a first nonwoven fabric that is formed so that constituent fibers of the first nonwoven fabric have an average fiber diameter of less than 0.5 μm, and the number of fibers having fiber diameters ranging from 2 times up to 10 times the average fiber diameter of the constituent fibers is in a range of 2 to 20% of a total number of the constituent fibers; and

a second nonwoven fabric that is formed so that constituent fibers of the second nonwoven fabric have an average fiber diameter in a range of 0.5 to 1 μm, and the number of fibers having fiber diameters ranging from 2 times up to 10 times the average fiber diameter of the constituent fibers is in a range of 2 to 20% of a total number of the constituent fibers.
