Abstract

The invention relates to a pressure measurement device ( 1 ) comprising: a pressure sensor ( 3 ) for securing to an element having a pressure that is to be measured; and a stationary portion ( 5 ) facing a path of the sensor so as to be in resonant high frequency AC electrical relationship with the sensor in order to power the sensor and in order to receive measurements acquired by the sensor. The invention also relates to a measurement system including such a measurement device.

Claims (40)

1. A pressure measurement device, comprising:

a pressure sensor subjected to be secured to an element having a pressure that is to be measured;

a stationary portion facing a path of the sensor so as to be in resonant high frequency AC electrical relationship with the sensor in order to power the sensor and in order to receive measurements acquired by the sensor, and

means for measuring the temperature of strain detectors of the sensor.

2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the measurement device has wireless power supply means for powering the sensor from the stationary portion, said means comprising at least one transformer having a primary carried by the stationary portion and the secondary is carried by the sensor.

The device according to claim 1 , wherein the measurement device includes wireless communication means between the sensor and the stationary portion for communicating measurements acquired by the sensor, said means comprising at least one capacitor having a first plate carried by the stationary portion and a second plate carried by the sensor, the air between the sensor and the stationary portion directly forming the insulating portion between the two capacitor plates.

4. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the stationary portion and the sensor are configured so as to be in resonant AC electrical relationship at a high frequency lying in the range 50 MHz to 300 MHz.

5. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the means for measuring temperature comprise means for measuring the power supply of the strain detectors.

The device according to a claim 1 , wherein the stationary portion includes wired connection means to remote processor means of the device, said wired connection means comprising a cable suitable for providing differential transmission of various signals between the device and the processor means.

7. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the sensor includes a printed circuit card providing coupling between the stationary portion and the sensor.

The device according to claim 7 , wherein the printed circuit card includes a portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement, the printed circuit card including strain detectors mounted on said portion in order to measure the deformation of the printed circuit card under the influence of said pressure.

The device according to claim 8 , wherein the printed circuit card includes a first main face, a second main face, and an orifice extending from the second main face towards the first main face but without opening out into said first main face, the portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement thus being formed by the central zone of minimum thickness defined on top by the bottom of the orifice and at the bottom by the first main face.

The device according to claim 8 , wherein the printed circuit card has a first main face, a second main face, and an orifice extending inside said printed circuit card, the portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement thus being formed by the central zone of minimum thickness defined on top by the bottom of the orifice and at the bottom by the first main face.

11. The device according to claim 10 , wherein the printed circuit card further includes an opening extending from the second main face towards the orifice and opening out into said orifice.

12. The device according to claim 10 , wherein the orifice is filled with a gas other than air.

13. The device according to claim 8 , wherein at least one of the strain detectors comprises a track of electrically conductive material arranged on or in the printed circuit card and sensitive to deformation of said card.

A system for measuring a vehicle tire pressure, the system including a tire pressure measurement device according to claim 1 , together with processor means for processing measurements acquired by the measurement device, the processor means being for mounting on the vehicle remotely from the tire.

15. The system according to claim 14 , wherein the processor means include a power supply circuit for powering the stationary portion, and a monitor circuit for monitoring an output of said power supply circuit.

16. The system according to claim 15 , wherein the monitor circuit includes means for sending an electric pulse to the power supply circuit and means for detecting the return wave following the pulse.

17. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the stationary portion includes a printed circuit card providing the coupling between the stationary portion and the sensor.

18. A pressure measurement device comprising:

a pressure sensor subjected to be secured to an element having a pressure that is to be measured; and

a stationary portion facing a path of the sensor so as to be in resonant high frequency AC electrical relationship with the sensor in order to power the sensor and in order to receive measurements acquired by the sensor,

wherein the sensor includes a printed circuit card providing coupling between the stationary portion and the sensor; and/or

wherein the stationary portion includes a printed circuit card providing coupling between the stationary portion and the sensor.

19. The device according to claim 18 , wherein the measurement device has wireless power supply means for powering the sensor from the stationary portion, said means comprising at least one transformer having a primary carried by the stationary portion and the secondary is carried by the sensor.

The device according to claim 18 , wherein the measurement device includes wireless communication means between the sensor and the stationary portion for communicating measurements acquired by the sensor, said means comprising at least one capacitor having a first plate carried by the stationary portion and a second plate carried by the sensor, the air between the sensor and the stationary portion directly forming the insulating portion between the two capacitor plates.

21. The device according to claim 18 , wherein the stationary portion and the sensor are configured so as to be in resonant AC electrical relationship at a high frequency lying in the range 50 MHz to 300 MHz.

22. The device according to claim 18 , including means for measuring the temperature of strain detectors of the sensor.

23. The device according to claim 22 , wherein the means for measuring temperature comprise means for measuring the power supply of the strain detectors.

The device according to claim 18 , wherein the stationary portion includes wired connection means to remote processor means of the device, said wired connection means comprising a cable suitable for providing differential transmission of various signals between the device and the processor means.

The device according to claim 18 , wherein the printed circuit card includes a portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement, the printed circuit card including strain detectors mounted on said portion in order to measure the deformation of the printed circuit card under the influence of said pressure.

The device according to claim 25 , wherein the printed circuit card includes a first main face, a second main face, and an orifice extending from the second main face towards the first main face but without opening out into said first main face, the portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement thus being formed by the central zone of minimum thickness defined on top by the bottom of the orifice and at the bottom by the first main face.

The device according to claim 25 , wherein the printed circuit card has a first main face, a second main face, and an orifice extending inside said printed circuit card, the portion that is to be subjected to the pressure for measurement thus being formed by the central zone of minimum thickness defined on top by the bottom of the orifice and at the bottom by the first main face.

28. The device according to claim 27 , wherein the printed circuit card further includes an opening extending from the second main face towards the orifice and opening out into said orifice.

29. The device according to claim 27 , wherein the orifice is filled with a gas other than air.

30. The device according to claim 18 , wherein at least one of the strain detectors comprises a track of electrically conductive material arranged on or in the printed circuit card and sensitive to deformation of said card.

A system for measuring a vehicle tire pressure, the system including a tire pressure measurement device according to claim 18 together with processor means for processing measurements acquired by the measurement device, the processor means being for mounting on the vehicle remotely from the tire.

32. The system according to claim 31 , wherein the processor means include a power supply circuit for powering the stationary portion, and a monitor circuit for monitoring an output of said power supply circuit.

33. The system according to claim 32 , wherein the monitor circuit includes means for sending an electric pulse to the power supply circuit and means for detecting the return wave following the pulse.
