ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURING BIO-BASED CONDUCTIVE SHAPE MEMORY POLYMER MACOSTRUCTURE PARTS WITH HIGHLY ORDERED MICROSTRUCTURES
An additive manufacturing apparatus includes an additive manufacturing print head and a nozzle that receives a bio-based shape memory polymer material and a bio-based material. The nozzle extrudes the bio-based shape memory polymer material and the bio-based material onto a substrate to form a bio-based shape memory polymer part or product.
1 . An apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer part or product, comprising:
an additive manufacturing substrate;
an additive manufacturing print head;
a bio-based shape memory polymer material in said additive manufacturing print head;
an additive manufacturing control system that provides movement of said additive manufacturing print head relative to said additive manufacturing substrate and that extrudes said bio-based shape memory polymer material from said additive manufacturing print head onto said additive manufacturing substrate to form the part or product.

The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 1 wherein said additive manufacturing print head includes a nozzle in said additive manufacturing print head that extrudes said bio-based shape memory polymer material from said additive manufacturing print head onto said additive manufacturing substrate to form the part or product.

The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 1 further comprising a feed operatively connected to said additive manufacturing print head wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer material is transferred from said feed into said additive manufacturing print head.
4 . The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 1 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer material includes a component of shape memory polymer material.
5 . The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 1 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer material includes a component of bio-based material.
6 . The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 1 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer material includes components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material.
7 . The apparatus for additively manufacturing a bio-based shape memory polymer product of claim 6 wherein said components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material include carbon nano fibers fillers, epoxidized soy bean oil, and Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether thermoset base resin.
8 . An additive manufacturing apparatus for producing a part or a product, comprising:
an additive manufacturing substrate;
an additive manufacturing print head operatively connected to said additive manufacturing substrate;
an additive manufacturing material in said additive manufacturing print head, said additive manufacturing material including components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material; and
an additive manufacturing control system that provides movement of said additive manufacturing print head relative to said additive manufacturing substrate and that extrudes said additive manufacturing material including components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material from said additive manufacturing print head onto said additive manufacturing substrate to form the part or product that is a composite of said components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material.

The additive manufacturing apparatus for producing a part or a product of claim 8 wherein said additive manufacturing print head includes a nozzle for extruding said additive manufacturing material including components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material onto said additive manufacturing substrate to form the part or product that is a composite of said components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material.
10 . The additive manufacturing apparatus for producing a part or a product of claim 8 wherein said additive manufacturing material includes carbon nano fibers fillers, epoxidized soy bean oil, and Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether thermoset base resin.
11 . An additive manufacturing method for producing a part or a product, comprising:
providing an additive manufacturing substrate;
positioning an additive manufacturing print head in operative position relative to said additive manufacturing substrate;
providing bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material in said additive manufacturing print head; and
using an additive manufacturing control system to provide movement of said additive manufacturing print head relative to said additive manufacturing substrate and to extrude said bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material from said additive manufacturing print head onto said additive manufacturing substrate to form the part or product.
12 . The additive manufacturing method for producing a part or a product of claim 11 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material includes a component of bio-based material.
13 . The additive manufacturing method for producing a part or a product of claim 11 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material includes a component of shape memory polymer material.
14 . The additive manufacturing method for producing a part or a product of claim 11 wherein said bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material includes components of shape memory polymer material and bio-based material.
15 . The additive manufacturing method for producing a part or a product of claim 14 wherein said step of providing bio-based shape memory polymer additive manufacturing material in said additive manufacturing print head comprises the steps of
adding carbon nano fibers fillers to epoxidized soy bean oil and Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether thermoset base resin to from an intermediate material,
adding acetone to said intermediate material,
sonicating said intermediate material,
mixing said intermediate material,
drying said intermediate material, and
degassing said intermediate material.
