Abstract

An organic light-emitting device includes a first electrode; a second electrode facing the first electrode; and an organic layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, the organic layer including an emission layer. The emission layer includes at least one heterocyclic compound of Formula 1. The heterocyclic compound may be a host or a delayed fluorescent dopant. The organic light-emitting device including the heterocyclic compound may have a low driving voltage, high efficiency, high luminance, and a long lifespan.

Claims (128)

1. An organic light-emitting device comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode facing the first electrode; and

an organic layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, the organic layer comprising an emission layer and at least one heterocyclic compound represented by Formula 1,

wherein the first electrode is an anode,

the second electrode is a cathode,

the organic layer further comprises a hole transport region, between the first electrode and the emission layer, and an electron transport region, between the emission layer and the second electrode,

the hole transport region comprises at least one layer selected from a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, a buffer layer, an emission auxiliary layer, and an electron blocking layer,

the electron transport region comprises at least one layer selected from a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer, and an electron injection layer,

the heterocyclic compound is in the emission layer and is a delayed fluorescent dopant,

the emission layer further comprises a host, and

the delayed fluorescent dopant and the host satisfy Equation 2 or Equation 3:

wherein, in Equations 2 and 3,

E H, HOMO is a highest occupied molecular orbital level of the host,

E H, LUMO is a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of the host, and

E D, LUMO is a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of the dopant:

wherein, in Formulae 1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, and 3-2,

X 1 is O or S,

Ar 1 and Ar 2 are each independently a substituted or unsubstituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group,

a1 and a2 are each independently an integer from 0 to 3,

b1 and b2 are each independently 0 or 1,

a1, a2, b1, and b2 satisfy a1+b1≥1 and a2+b2≥1,

R 1 and R 2 are each independently a group represented by Formula 2-1,

R 3 is a group represented by Formula 2-2,

A 1 to A 4 are each independently selected from a benzene group, a naphthalene group, a phenanthrene group, a fluoranthene group, a triphenylene group, a pyrene group, a chrysene group, a pyridine group, a pyrimidine group, a pyrazine group, a pyridazine group, and a tetrazine group,

A 5 to A 8 are each independently selected from a benzene group, a naphthalene group, a phenanthrene group, a fluoranthene group, a triphenylene group, a pyrene group, a chrysene group, a pyridine group, a pyrimidine group, a pyrazine group, a pyridazine group, and a tetrazine group,

Y 1 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), S(═O)(R 19 ), S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or P(═O)(R 19 ),

Y 2 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), S(═O)(R 19 ), S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or P(═O)(R 19 ),

Y 3 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), S(═O)(R 19 ), S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or P(═O)(R 19 ),

Y 4 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), S(═O)(R 19 ), S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or P(═O)(R 19 ),

Y 5 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), S(═O)(R 19 ), S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or P(═O)(R 19 ),

wherein (i) when Y 2 is a single bond, S, or O, a group represented by Formula 2-1 and a group represented by Formula 2-2 are different from each other, and

(ii) when -(Ar 1 ) a1 -(R 1 ) b1 and -(Ar 2 ) a2 -(R 2 ) b2 each represent a phenyl group, either Y 2 is S(═O)(R 19 ) or S(═O) 2 (R 19 ), or at least one of R 13 and R 14 is selected from a group represented by Formula 3-1 and a group represented by Formula 3-2,

R 11 to R 14 are each independently selected from a group represented by Formula 3-1, a group represented by Formula 3-2, hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, —S(═O)(Q 1 ), and —P(═O)(Q 1 )(Q 2 ),

wherein two or more R 11 (s) are optionally linked to form a substituted or unsubstituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group, two or more R 12 (s) are optionally linked to form a substituted or unsubstituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group, two or more R 13 (s) are optionally linked to form a substituted or unsubstituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group, and two or more R 14 (s) are optionally linked to form a substituted or unsubstituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group,

b11 to b14 are each independently an integer from 1 to 8,

when X 1 is O, at least one of R 13 and R 14 is a group represented by Formula 3-1 or a group represented by Formula 3-2, provided that Y 2 and Y 3 are not both a single bond at the same time, and Y 2 and Y 4 or Y 2 and Y 5 are not both a single bond at the same time,

R 15 to R 20 are each independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl , —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic, —S(═O)(Q 1 ), and —P(═O)(Q 1 )(Q 2 ),

b15 to b18 are each independently an integer from 1 to 8,

at least one substituent of the substituted C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group, the substituted C 2 -C 60 heterocyclic group, the substituted C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, the substituted C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, the substituted C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, the substituted C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, the substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, the substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, the substituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, the substituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, the substituted C 6 -C 60 aryl group, the substituted C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, the substituted C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, the substituted C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, the substituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, and the substituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group is selected from:

deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, and a C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group;

a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, and a C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, each substituted with at least one selected from deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, -Si(Q 11 )(Q 12 )(Q 13 ), -N(Q 11 )(Q 12 ), -B(Q 11 )(Q 12 ), —C(═O)(Q 11 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 11 ), and —P(═O)(Q 11 )(Q 12 );

a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, and a monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group;

a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, and a monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, each substituted with at least one selected from deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, a C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, -Si(Q 21 )(Q 22 )(Q 23 ), -N(Q 21 )(Q 22 ), -B(Q 21 )(Q 22 ), —C(═O)(Q 21 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 21 ), and —P(═O)(Q 21 )(Q 22 ); and

-Si(Q 31 )(Q 32 )(Q 33 ), -N(Q 31 )(Q 32 ), -B(Q 31 )(Q 32 ), —C(═O)(Q 31 ), —S(═O) 2 (Q 31 ), and —P(═O)(Q 31 )(Q 32 ),

Q 1 , Q 2 , Q 11 to Q 13 , Q 21 to Q 23 , and Q 31 to Q 33 are each independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, —F, -C 1 , —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, a C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, a biphenyl group, and a terphenyl group, and

*indicates a binding site to a neighboring atom.

2. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

a1, a2, b1, and b2 satisfy a1+b1=1 and a2+b2=1.

3. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

b1 and b2 satisfy b1+b2=0 or b1+b2=1.

4. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein,

when Y 2 is O, Y 1 is a single bond, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), or Si(R 19 )(R 20 ).

5. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

Ar 1 and Ar 2 are each independently a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic C 6 -C 30 carbocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted π electron-depleted nitrogen-containing C 2 -C 30 heterocyclic group.

6. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

A 1 to A 4 are each independently a benzene group, a pyridine group, or a pyrimidine group, and

A 5 to A 8 are each independently a benzene group, a pyridine group, or a pyrimidine group.

7. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

Y 1 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), or Si(R 19 )(R 20 ),

Y 2 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), or Si(R 19 )(R 20 ), and

Y 3 is a single bond, O, S, SO 2 , N(R 19 ), C(R 19 )(R 20 ), or Si(R 19 )(R 20 ),

provided that Y 2 and Y 3 are not both a single bond at the same time.

8. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

the heterocyclic compound represented by Formula 1 is represented by Formula 1-1 or Formula 1-2:

wherein, in Formulae 1-1 and 1-2,

descriptions of A 11 , A 12 , A 21 , A 22 , A 31 , and A 32 are each independently the same as the one provided in connection with A 1 to A 4 in Formula 1,

descriptions of Y 11 and Y 13 are each independently the same as the one provided in connection with Y 1 in Formula 1,

wherein when -Ar 1 and Ar 2 are each a phenyl group, either Y 13 is S(═O)(R 19 ) or S(═O)2(R 19 ), or at least one of R 121 and R 122 is selected from a group represented by Formula 3-1 and a group represented by Formula 3-2,

description of Y 12 is the same as the one provided in connection with Y 2 in Formula 1,

when one of Y 11 and Y 12 is O, the other one of Y 11 and Y 12 is not O,

descriptions of R 101 , R 102 , R 111 , R 112 , R 121 , and R 122 are each independently the same as the one provided in connection with R 11 to R 14 in Formula 1, and

descriptions of X 1 , Ar 1 , and Ar 2 are respectively the same as those provided in connection with Formula 1.

9. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

R 11 to R 14 are each independently selected from:

a group represented by Formula 3-1, a group represented by Formula 3-2, hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group, a phenyl group, an acridyl group, and a carbazolyl group; and

a phenyl group, an acridyl group, and a carbazolyl group, each substituted with at least one substituent selected from deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, and a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group,

wherein when X 1 is 0, at least one of R 13 and R 14 is a group represented by Formula 3-1 or a group represented by Formula 3-2.

10. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

when Y 1 is a single bond, the group represented by Formula 2-1 is a group represented by Formula 2-2-1:

wherein, in Formula 2-2-1,

R 28 is a group represented by Formula 3-1 or a group represented by Formula 3-2, and

descriptions of R 21 to R 27 are each independently the same as the one provided in connection with R 11 to R 14 in Formula 1.

11. The organic light-emitting device of claim 10 , wherein

R 23 is selected from:

hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group, a cyclopentyl group, a cyclohexyl group, a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, a fluorenyl group, a pyridinyl group, a pyrimidyl group, a quinolinyl group, an isoquinolinyl group, a benzoquinolinyl group, a naphthyridinyl group, a quinoxalinyl group, a quinazolinyl group, a carbazolyl group, a triazinyl group, a dibenzofuranyl group, a dibenzothiophenyl group, a biphenyl group, and a terphenyl group; and

a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group, a cyclopentyl group, a cyclohexyl group, a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, a fluorenyl group, a pyridinyl group, a pyrimidyl group, a quinolinyl group, an isoquinolinyl group, a benzoquinolinyl group, a naphthyridinyl group, a quinoxalinyl group, a quinazolinyl group, a carbazolyl group, a triazinyl group, a dibenzofuranyl group, a dibenzothiophenyl group, a biphenyl group, and a terphenyl group, each substituted with at least one selected from deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amidino group, a hydrazino group, a hydrazono group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, a fluorenyl group, a carbazolyl group, a dibenzofuranyl group, a dibenzothiophenyl group, a biphenyl group, and a terphenyl group, and

R 21 , R 22 , and R 24 to R 27 are each hydrogen.

12. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

the group represented by Formula 3-1 is represented by Formula 3-1-1:

wherein, in Formula 3-1-1,

descriptions of Y 3 , R 15 , and R 16 are respectively the same as those provided in connection with Formula 1, and

*indicates a binding site to a neighboring atom.

13. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

R 15 to R 20 are each independently selected from:

hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group, and a phenyl group; and

a phenyl group substituted with at least one substituent selected from deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, an isobutyl group, a sec-butyl group, a ter-butyl group, and a C 1 -C 20 alkoxy group.

14. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

the heterocyclic compound satisfies Equation 1:

wherein, in Equation 1,

E D,S1 is a singlet energy level (eV) of the delayed fluorescent dopant, and

E D,T1 is a triplet energy level (eV) of the delayed fluorescent dopant.

15. The organic light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein

the host is one of Compounds H101 to H106:

16. An organic light-emitting device comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode facing the first electrode; and

an organic layer between the first electrode and the second electrode, the organic layer comprising an emission layer and at least one heterocyclic compound selected from Compounds 4 to 10, 12 to 17, 19 to 24, and 28 to 30,

wherein the first electrode is an anode,

the second electrode is a cathode,

the organic layer further comprises a hole transport region, between the first electrode and the emission layer, and an electron transport region, between the emission layer and the second electrode,

the hole transport region comprises at least one layer selected from a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, a buffer layer, an emission auxiliary layer, and an electron blocking layer,

the electron transport region comprises at least one layer selected from a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer, and an electron injection layer,

wherein the heterocyclic compound is in the emission layer and is a delayed fluorescent dopant,

the emission layer further comprises a host, and

the delayed fluorescent dopant and the host satisfy Equation 2 or Equation 3:

wherein, in Equations 2 and 3,
