Abstract

A monitor/display is used to display a vision test. A patient is spaced a predetermined distance from the monitor/display during the testing procedure, and individual, multiple LED housings are equally spaced about a center point of the monitor/display to direct light toward the patient during at least a portion of the test procedure. The light emanating from the individual housings is a diffuse, unfocused light to simulate glare, and the intensity of the light may be selectively altered. Conducting vision testing under glare conditions determines if there is any reduction or fall off in the patient's vision under such circumstances and provides an indication of whether the patient may require cataract surgery or has another ocular problem. An assembly allows an existing vision testing system to be easily modified to provide glare light testing capabilities.

Claims (25)

1. A glare test assembly for modifying an associated existing vision testing system wherein the associated vision testing system includes a monitor/display having a first, upper surface and a second, lower surface spaced therefrom, and a third, left side surface and a fourth, right side surface for displaying a test procedure to include glare test capability, the glare test assembly comprising:

at least first and second diffuse, unfocused glare light sources; and

at least first and second light brackets each including a cavity dimensioned to receive a respective one of the first and second glare light sources therein at equally-spaced locations relative to a center point of the associated monitor/display and directed toward an associated patient to conduct the test procedure under glare light conditions, wherein the first light bracket is mounted either on or adjacent one of the first upper surface of the associated monitor/display and the third left side surface of the associated monitor/display, and the second light bracket is mounted either on or adjacent one of the second, lower surface of the associated monitor/display and the fourth, right side surface of the associated monitor/display.

2. The assembly of claim 1 further comprising a detector in operative communication with the first and second glare light sources to provide signals thereto that control glare light emitted from the glare light sources.

3. The assembly of claim 2 further comprising a support member to which the first and second glare light sources and detector are mounted.

4. The assembly of claim 1 further comprising a support member to which the first and second glare light sources are mounted.

5. The assembly of claim 4 wherein the first and second brackets are secured to the support member in spaced relation.

6. The assembly of claim 5 wherein the first and second brackets are located outside a width dimension of the associated monitor/display of the vision testing system.

7. The assembly of claim 4 further comprising a third bracket secured to the support member, the third bracket configured to receive a detector portion of a controller.

8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein the support member joins the glare light sources and detector to the associated vision testing system.

9. The assembly of claim 4 wherein the support member is mounted to an associated wall surface.

10. The assembly of claim 9 wherein the support member is secured to a wall surface independently of the associated monitor/display of the vision testing system.

11. A method of modifying an existing vision testing system to include glare test capability wherein the associated system includes a monitor/display having a first, upper surface and a second, lower surface spaced therefrom, and a third, left side surface and a fourth, right side surface for displaying a test procedure, the comprising:

providing at least first and second diffuse, unfocused glare light sources;

providing at least first and second light brackets each including a cavity dimensioned to receive a respective one of the first and second glare light sources therein at equally-spaced locations relative to a center point of the associated monitor/display and directed toward an associated patient to conduct the test procedure under glare light conditions; and

mounting the first light bracket either on or adjacent one of the first, upper surface of the associated monitor/display and the third, left side surface of the associated monitor/display, and mounting the second light bracket either on or adjacent one of the second, lower surface of the associated monitor/display and the fourth, right side surface of the associated monitor/display.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising a support member to which the first and second glare light sources are mounted.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising providing a detector of a controller that operatively communicates with the first and second glare light sources to provide signals thereto that control glare light emitted from the glare light sources.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the detector is mounted to the support member.

15. The method of claim 12 further comprising securing the first and second brackets to the support member that receive the first and second glare light sources, respectively.

16. The method of claim 12 wherein the first and second brackets are secured to the support member in spaced relation.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the first and second brackets are located outside a width dimension of the associated monitor/display of the vision testing system.

18. The method of claim 12 wherein the support member is mounted to an associated wall surface.

19. The method of claim 12 wherein the support member is secured to a wall surface independently of the associated monitor/display of the vision testing system.

20. The method of claim 12 wherein the support member joins the glare light sources to the associated vision testing system.
