Abstract

A mask is provided that is configured to increase the depth of focus of a patient. The mask can include an aperture configured to transmit along an optical axis substantially all visible incident light. The mask can further include a portion surrounding at least a portion of the aperture. The portion may be configured to be substantially opaque to visible electromagnetic radiation and be substantially transparent to electromagnetic radiation transmitted from an ocular examination device (e.g., substantially transparent to at least some non-visible electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength between about 750 nm and about 1500 nm).

Claims (18)

1. An intraocular implant system comprising:

a lens having an anterior surface and a posterior surface;

a mask configured to be positioned anterior to the anterior surface of the lens, the mask being configured to increase the depth of focus of an eye of a human patient when the mask is implanted, the mask comprising a mask body that is substantially opaque to visible light and substantially transparent to near infrared light,

wherein a central region of the mask is substantially transparent to visible light.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central region comprises a through-hole located in the center of the mask.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the diameter of the through-hole is between 1.0 mm and 2.5 mm.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the through-hole is circular.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein an outer diameter of the mask is between 3 mm and 8 mm.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask body is made of one or more materials comprising hydrophobic acrylic.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask body is made of one or more materials comprising at least one dye capable of absorbing electromagnetic radiation.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the at least one dye comprises a first dye that absorbs a first range of electromagnetic radiation wavelengths, and a second dye that absorbs a second range of electromagnetic radiation wavelengths.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask body comprises a plurality of holes.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of holes are distributed in an irregular pattern.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask is curved.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein at least part of the system is configured to be fixated in the ciliary sulcus.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask body blocks at least 90% of the visible light.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mask body transmits at least 90% of the near infrared light.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central region of the mask transmits at least 90% of the visible light.
