Abstract

A bicycle comprises a wheel, a frame supported on the wheel and including a tube hole, a motor mounted to the frame, a battery including battery hole extending completely through the battery, and a battery mounting pin extending through the battery hole and tube hole to secure the battery to the frame. In one embodiment, the tube includes spaced-apart first and second walls, with the tube hole through the first wall and a threaded hole through the second wall and aligned with the tube hole. Preferably, the battery mounting pin includes a threaded end, and the battery mounting pin is positioned through the tube hole and through the battery hole with the threaded end threaded into the threaded hole. The invention is also embodied in a method of mounting a battery to an ebike including the steps of aligning the battery hole with the tube hole and inserting a battery mounting pin through the tube hole and completely through the battery hole.

Claims (33)

1. A bicycle comprising:

a wheel;

a frame supported on the wheel and including a tube hole;

a motor mounted to the frame;

a battery including a battery hole extending completely through the battery, wherein the battery hole is aligned with the tube hole; and

a battery mounting pin extending through the battery hole and the tube hole to secure the battery to the frame;

wherein:

the frame includes a tube having a tube recess;

the battery is at least partially positioned in the tube recess;

the tube hole is in a portion of the tube that also includes the tube recess;

the tube includes a first wall and a second wall spaced apart from the first wall;

the tube hole is through the first wall; and

the frame further includes a threaded hole through the second wall and aligned with the tube hole.

2. A bicycle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the battery hole is aligned with both the tube hole and the threaded hole.

3. A bicycle as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the battery mounting pin includes a threaded end, and wherein the battery mounting pin is positioned through the tube hole and through the battery hole with the threaded end threaded into the threaded hole.

4. The bicycle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the tube is a down tube.

5. The bicycle as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the tube hole and the threaded hole extend through the first wall and the second wall, respectively, of the down tube adjacent an upper end of the tube recess.

6. The bicycle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the battery includes an upper battery mount and a lower battery mount, wherein the upper battery mount includes the battery hole.

7. The bicycle as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the battery is pivotally coupled to the frame at the lower battery mount.

8. A method of mounting a battery having a battery hole extending completely through the battery to an ebike having a frame including a tube hole, the method comprising:

aligning the battery hole with the tube hole; and

inserting a battery mounting pin through the tube hole and completely through the battery hole;

wherein:

the frame includes a tube having a tube recess;

the method further includes, prior to the inserting the battery mounting pin through the tube hole and completely through the battery hole, positioning the battery at least partially in the tube recess;

the tube includes a first wall and a second wall spaced apart from the first wall;

the tube hole is through the first wall;

the frame further includes a threaded hole through the second wall and aligned with the tube hole; and

the inserting the battery mounting pin through the tube hole and completely through the battery hole further includes threading the battery mounting pin into the threaded hole.

9. The method as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the tube is a down tube.

10. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the tube hole and the threaded hole extend through the first wall and the second wall, respectively, of the down tube adjacent an upper end of the tube recess.

11. The method as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the battery includes an upper battery mount and a lower battery mount, wherein the upper battery mount includes the battery hole.

12. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the battery is pivotally coupled to the frame at the lower battery mount, and wherein the step of positioning the battery at least partially in the tube recess includes pivoting the battery relative to the frame at the lower battery mount.
