Abstract

A receptacle connector assembly includes an outer housing and a terminal module. The terminals module includes an insulator having a base and a mating tongue extending from the base and equipped with a plurality of contacts and a shielding plate. The contacts include front contacting sections exposed upon the mating tongue and tail sections extending out of the base. The shielding plate is embedded within the mating tongue and includes a pair of rigid notches in two opposite lateral sides for locking to a pair of corresponding latches of a complementary plug connector. The outer housing is of an insulative molding part or a metallic die cast, the terminal module is assembled in the outer housing, and thus a mating cavity is directly defined between the mating tongue and the outer housing.

Claims (16)

1. A plug connector comprising: an insulative housing defining a receiving cavity; two rows of contacts retained on the insulative housing and comprising front contacting sections extending into an upper and lower sides of the receiving cavity and rear connecting sections; a metallic shell fitly enclosing the insulative housing; and a pair of EMI plates disposed between the metallic shell and the insulative housing, respectively; wherein each of EMI plates defines front contacting sections extending into the receiving cavity and disposed in front of the contacting sections of the contacts through corresponding holes defined on the insulative housing, the corresponding holes are distinct from each other; wherein each of the EMI plates forms an engagement notch to receive a protrusion defined on the insulative housing so as not to lessen the housing material for strength consideration.

2. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the front contacting sections of the EMI plates bend inwards and rearwards.

3. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , the front contacting sections of the EMI plates is structured with a bellow shape instead of a cantilevered type so as to leave a distance with regard to the contacting sections of the contacts for not shorting therebetween.

4. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the front slantwise inwards and forward into the receiving cavity.

5. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , comprising a metallic latch of a blanking type, wherein the metallic latch defines a pair of front side arms extending into two opposite lateral sides of the receiving cavity and a pair of side edges to mechanically and electrically contact an interior surface of the metallic shell for constant self-grounding in the plug connector.

6. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , comprising a pair of discrete latches retained within two opposite slots defined on the insulative housing, wherein each of the latches comprising a front locking section protruding into the receiving cavity and a middle section with bars on upper and lower edges thereof to interfere with the slot of the insulative housing and a rear section.

7. The plug connector as claimed in claim 6 , wherein each latch defines an outer face mechanically and electrically touch with an interior face of the metallic shell.

8. The plug connector as claimed in claim 1 , comprising a pair of discrete latches, wherein each latch defines an outer face mechanically and electrically touch with an interior face of the metallic shell.

9. A plug connector comprising:

an insulative housing defining a receiving cavity surrounded with a first wall and a second wall in a vertical direction;

a row of first contacts arranged in the first wall in a transverse direction and each extending substantially in a front-rear direction and comprising contacting sections extending into the receiving cavity;

a row of second contacts arranged in the second wall and comprising contacting sections extending into the receiving cavity; and

a pair of EMI plates disposed between the metallic shell and the insulative housing, respectively;

wherein each of the first and second walls defines a plurality of through holes running therethrough in the vertical direction, and each through hole is closed in the front-rear direction and the transverse direction; each plate defines contacting sections extending into the receiving cavity across corresponding through holes and disposed in front of the contacting sections of the contacts in the front-rear direction.

10. The plug connector as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the contacting sections of the EMI plates bend inward and then rearward.

11. The plug connector as claimed in claim 9 , comprising a metallic latch located in the insulative housing, wherein metallic latch comprises a pair of latching arms protruding into the receiving cavity and outer edges mechanically and electrically touching with an interior face of the metallic shell.
