Abstract

Methods, devices, and systems for controlling imaging operations in electronic image capture devices are disclosed. In some aspects, a device includes processor coupled to a camera module, a user input surface, and a memory. The processor can be configured to receive, from the user input surface, a continuous user input. The continuous user input can include, at least, a first portion and a second portion. The processor can be further configured to control a first imaging operation based on a first input type received during the first portion and control a second imaging operation based on a second input type received during the second portion. The first input type can include movement of an input element relative to the user input surface, for example, and the second imaging operation can be different than the first imaging operation.

Claims (42)

1. A device comprising:

a memory; and

a processor coupled to a camera module, a touch-sensitive display, and the memory, the processor configured to:

receive, from the touch-sensitive display, a continuous user input, the user input including a first portion and a second portion, wherein the user input is initiated at a location relative to the touch-sensitive display selected by the user;

cause the touch-sensitive display to display a graphical user interface element at the location where the user input is initiated, wherein the graphical user interface element includes a first region and a second region;

control a zoom level adjustment operation based on a first input type received during the first portion, the first input type including movement of an input element relative to the touch-sensitive display, wherein movement of the input element during the first portion along the touch-sensitive display causes the second region to move relative to the first region during the first portion of the continuous user input; and

control an image frame capture operation based on a second input type received during the second portion, wherein the second input type includes an interaction with the second region of the graphical user interface.

2. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

the camera module.

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the processor is configured to cause the touch-sensitive display to display a preview stream received from the camera module during the first portion of the continuous user input, wherein the preview stream represents, at least partially, the zoom level adjustment operation during the first portion of the continuous user input.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first input type includes movement of the input element along the touch-sensitive display over at least a portion of the first region.

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the second input type includes a movement of the input element along the touch-sensitive display between the first region and the second region.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the movement of the second region during the first portion tracks a location of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display as the input element moves relative to the first region.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first input type includes a twist of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the second input type includes a release of the input element from the touch-sensitive display.

9. The device of claim 7 , wherein the second input type includes a translation of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first input type includes a translation of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the second input type includes a release of the input element from the touch-sensitive display.

12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the second input type includes a translation of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display.

13. The device of claim 10 , wherein the input element includes a first structure that translates relative to the touch-sensitive display and a second structure that translates relative to the touch-sensitive display during the first portion, wherein the first structure and the second structure are spaced apart from each other on a plane that is parallel to the touch-sensitive display.

14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the second input type includes a translation of the first structure relative to the touch-sensitive display and wherein the second structure is stationary relative to the touch-sensitive display during the second portion.

15. The device of claim 13 , wherein the second input type includes a release of at least one of the first structure and the second structure from the touch-sensitive display.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is coupled to a second camera module, the second camera module facing a different direction than the camera module, the processor configured to:

receive, from the touch-sensitive display, a second continuous user input, the second user input including a first portion and a second portion;

control a zoom level adjustment operation associated with the second camera module based on a first input type received during the first portion of the second continuous user input, the first input type received during the first portion of the second continuous user input, the first input type including movement of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display; and

control an image frame capture associated with the second camera module based on a second input type received during the second portion of the second continuous user input.

17. The device of claim 16 , wherein the first input type received during the first portion of the continuous user input operation is different than the first input type received during the first portion of the second continuous user input operation.

18. The device of claim 16 , wherein a receivable range of motion to control the first imaging operation based on the first input type of the continuous user input operation is different than a receivable range of motion to control the first imaging operation of the second camera module based on the first input type of the second continuous user input operation.

19. A method comprising:

receiving, from a touch-sensitive display, a continuous user input, the user input including a first portion and a second portion, wherein the user input is initiated at a location relative to the touch-sensitive display selected by the user;

causing the touch-sensitive display to display a graphical user interface element at the location where the user input is initiated, wherein the graphical user interface element includes a first region and a second region;

controlling a zoom level adjustment operation based on a first input type received during the first portion, the first input type including movement of an input element relative to the touch-sensitive display, wherein movement of the input element during the first portion along the touch-sensitive display causes the second region to move relative to the first region during the first portion of the continuous user input; and

controlling an image frame capture operation based on a second input type received during the second portion, wherein the second input type includes an interaction with the second region of the graphical user interface.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising causing the touch-sensitive display to display a preview stream received from a camera module during the first portion of the continuous user input, wherein the preview stream represents, at least partially, the zoom level adjustment operation during the first portion of the continuous user input.

21. The method of claim 19 , wherein the first input type includes movement of the input element along the touch-sensitive display user input surface over at least a portion of the first region.

23. The method of claim 19 , wherein the movement of the second region during the first portion tracks a location of the input element relative to the touch-sensitive display user input surface as the input element moves relative to the first region.

24. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that when executed cause one or more processors to:

receive, from the touch-sensitive display, a continuous user input, the user input including a first portion and a second portion, wherein the user input is initiated at a location relative to the touch-sensitive display selected by the user;

cause the touch-sensitive display to display a graphical user interface element at the location where the user input is initiated, wherein the graphical user interface element includes a first region and a second region;

control a first imaging zoom level adjustment operation based on a first input type received during the first portion, the first input type including movement of an input element relative to the touch-sensitive display, wherein movement of the input element during the first portion along the touch-sensitive display causes the second region to move relative to the first region during the first portion of the continuous user input; and
