Abstract

A wearable cold pack formed with a reservoir for retention of liquid, and a cooling agent composition including salt mixed with water in the reservoir. The salt having a capacity to provide an endothermic effect to enhance cooling when mixed with water. The salt material is primarily ammonium nitrate that has been stabilized against detonation by the addition of an effective amount of phosphate material. The wearable cold pack may be configured as a joint wrap, a head wrap, a neck wrap, a shoulder wrap, a helmet or many other articles. The wearable cold pack cooling agent composition is capable of cooling in the amount of at least 130 Btu/lb due to endothermic effect when mixed with water.

Claims (5)

1. A wearable cold pack comprising:

a wearable article of clothing formed with a reservoir for retention of liquid, and

a cooling agent composition including a salt that is a co-milled blend of at least 100 mesh particle size of about 50 to 95 parts ammonium nitrate, about 1 to 10 parts ammonium phosphate to stabilize against detonation, about 4 to 30 parts potassium compound, about 1 part carbon containing compounds and mixed with about 90 parts water in the reservoir, the salt having a capacity to provide an endothermic effect to enhance cooling when mixed with water, wherein after achieving temperature equilibrium with the surrounding environment, the cooling agent composition is recyclable as a balanced NPK fertilizer.

2. The wearable cold pack of claim 1 , constructed and arranged as an article selected from the group consisting of a joint wrap, head wrap, neck wrap, a helmet and a shoulder wrap.

3. The wearable cold pack of claim 1 , wherein the cooling agent composition in substantially complete crystalized form is capable of cooling in the amount of at least 130 Btu/lb due to endothermic effect when mixed with water.
