Abstract

A developing device that is useable with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes a developing roller for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on an electrophotographic photosensitive drum. The developing device also includes a coupling member for transmitting a rotating force to the developing roller.

Claims (16)

1. An image forming apparatus comprising:

a main assembly;

a driving shaft;

a supporting member linearly movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axis of the driving shaft; and

a cartridge detachably mounted on the supporting member, the cartridge including (i) a rotatable member, and (ii) a coupling member engaging with the driving shaft to transmit a driving force received from the driving shaft to the rotatable member,

wherein the coupling member is movable between a first position in which an axis of the coupling member is substantially parallel to the axis of the driving shaft and a second position in which the axis of the coupling member is inclined relative to the axis of the driving shaft.

2. An image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a guide member contacting the coupling member.

3. An image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the rotatable member is a developing roller.

4. An image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a second cartridge detachably mounted on the supporting member, the second cartridge including (i) a rotatable member, and (ii) a coupling member engaging with the driving shaft to transmit a driving force received from the driving shaft to the rotatable member of the second cartridge,

wherein the coupling member of the second cartridge is movable between a position in which an axis of the coupling member of the second cartridge is substantially parallel to the axis of the driving shaft and a position in which the axis of the coupling member of the second cartridge is inclined relative to the axis of the driving shaft.

5. An image forming apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the cartridge and the second cartridge are arranged along a movement direction of the supporting member.

6. An image forming apparatus comprising:

a main assembly;

a driving shaft; and

a supporting member linearly movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axis of the driving shaft, the supporting member supporting a plurality of rotatable members and a plurality of coupling members engagable with the driving shaft to transmit a driving force received from the driving shaft to the rotatable members, respectively,

wherein each of the coupling members is movable between a first position in which an axis of the coupling member is substantially parallel to the axis of the driving shaft and a second position in which the axis of the coupling member is inclined relative to the axis of the driving shaft.
