Light based computing apparatus
A computing apparatus has a logic unit configured to perform an arithmetic operation by relating light beams, each having a respective light amplitude, to obtain a light-based result of the operation, and to evaluate the light-based result to output a corresponding numeric result. The logic unit uses variables values, each corresponding to a respective distinct light amplitude, the variable values thereby corresponding to a plurality of distinct light amplitudes.
1. A computing apparatus, comprising:
a logic unit comprising a light containment area having an inner surface defining a light containment interior space, and a resultant value output circuit;
a first light entry port operable to communicate a first light to the light containment area;
a second light entry port operable to communicate a second light to the light containment area;
a sensor circuit operable to output a sensed light value indicating a value of light within the light containment interior space; and
the resultant value output circuit being operable to output a non-binary arithmetic sum, of a first non-binary value represented by the first light and a second non-binary value represented by the second light, based on the sensed light value.
2. The computing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the light containment interior space of the light containment area is generally cubic in shape.
3. The computing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the light containment interior space of the light containment area is generally rectangular in shape.
4. The computing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the light containment interior space of the light containment area is generally spherical in shape.
